...so how do I fold in my external mirrors?

      (GTI 08/09)
      1. Position your self out side the car, near the mirror you wish to fold in.
      2. Using either hand, place your hand on the forward facing panel of the mirror.
      3. Using gentle force, push (or pull) the mirror, so that the mirrored face begins to fold back towards the window of the door it is attached to.
      4. When complete, move to opposite side of the car.
      5. Rinse and repeat.

Sorry....I'm in one of those moods today.

It's an option overseas and you can retrofit the electric folding and puddle lights but it's a reasonably big job which involves rewiring, vcds programming along with the parts required.

Can someone explain why they don't have the option in Australia? I mean, if it's standard overseas, why do they not bother having it here? Is it purely a cost saving exercise?

Exactly! Why does it state in the manual the mirrors fold in automatically....AND it's a "printed in Australia" manual!!!!! It just doesn't make sense!

If you look closely it was say "if fitted" or "optional".

And just because it's printed in Australia doesn't mean that they are going to produce a manual just for Australia when the same manual will do multiple markets for example NZ.

Who knows why they don't offer it, perhaps because our streets are wider then those in Europe. Perhaps to keep the cost of the cars down because of the massive taxation on cars here?

It would cost money and that feature probably would not make or break a persons decision to buy a car in Aus. The Civic Type R has it, but you didn't buy it because its mirrors fold did you .

Of course it won't make or break, but why sell a car with different features in different markets (unless of course that feature is specifically relevant for one market)?

I.e. is there any particular reason Europe needs folding mirrors, and we don't (perhaps narrow streets as mentioned above)?

How may cars on the Australan market have folding mirrors? Do Holden or Ford offer then? Nope. Do Japanese offer them generally? Nope. They're an option in the markets that VW seem to think needed it and also they have a quicker delivery time on special orders as they're close to the factory. I know what you're saying and I do agree with you as when we factory order we should be able to order all the options. Why don't VW offer the 18" Huffs on the GTI as an option like other markets for example?

What do you mean you don't agree with (me)? I'm asking questions, not putting forwarded a position. I'm simply asking why they do it.
