  • Low fuel pressure P0087

Hi could someone please could help me diagnose this. I was driving and all of a sudden the car went into turtle mode, no fuel cuts or miss behaviors just SLOW acceleration, idling was normal too. Cel light on too. Managed to crawl home

I have checked that cam follower its all good and also checked for fuel leaks and saw nothing. I'm thinking low fuel pressure sensor malfunction?

Car won't start at all now [emoji20]

    Thanks in advance

I used to replace quite a few low fuel pressure sensors....G410...think there might have been a campaign on them too...but we are talking 5 years ago

Also check that your in-tank fuel pump is working.

Managed to start for 5 seconds and then cough and splutter and then die like there's no fuel supply

Just because its logging a code for low fuel pressure doesnt mean its a issue....is there actually fuel? Is it getting upto the injectors? Low pressure = no fuel

Still has half a tank of fuel. I'd assume the fuel is getting to the injectors because the car started ?

But if it started and stopped may be only a small amount....or a sensor issue

                Low fuel pressure P0087

I might start at the g410 sensor which I could borrow or buy

I couldn't check fuel pressure while idle. So I tested with accessories on if this pic helps

bit of a long shot but i've heard of fuel filter's crapping out and causing issues...

i have a spare g410 sensor i could send you to test but i'm not back home for 2 weeks. let me know if you haven't got it sorted it by then and i'll put it in the post...

not sure if any of these threads will help but i have reviewed them in the past and found some info useful...

Thanks Guile if it's 2 weeks and I haven't got this sorted I will get that sensor off you. I have had a filter change and a rs4 fuel pressure regulator valve 10k ago, and I did check the cam follower and its looked in perfect condition just oil smudge marks from wiping oil of It.also have pics of cam lobe in cylinder head

My previous cam from 10k ago on the left and the current one on the right

no worries mate. i could be completely clutching at straws but i have heard that in tank fuel pumps can fail and cause these symptoms, just one of many things to check...

i have a used spare from my s3 (i installed the ttrs pump) that again you are welcome to borrow to narrow down your issue...

these things can be so frustrating to find and often simple to fix once you've found the problem...

Hence why I suggested to check it.

The HP pump on the engine can still draw up enough fuel for it to run, but there'll be a significant drop in power.

I had that significant drop in power [emoji20]

Okay so I managed to get the car to start and got it to operating temp, went to measuring blocks (pics below.)
And also got a multimeter to the fuel pump fuse and it was drawing 2.7 amps

So your H pressure rail is 43 bar under spec...you need a mechanic guage in the H pressure line to see if it is actually low or if the sensor is reading incorrect...
