Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • dash cluster center screen

Hi guys my dash cluster screen is starting to fade at the very bottom and I'm wanting to know are they replaceable or does the whole cluster have to be replaced?

whole cluster as far as I know and then it will need to be coded to the car as the immobilizer is in the dash cluster. common for them to fade out or turn back when its hot inside the car

I believe that going the dealer option will cost you around the $2,000 mark for a new cluster and coding of your existing keys.

What car do you have and do you know the part number of your cluster, it's on a sticker on the bottom of the cluster.

        I have the same problem.

Would it be possible just the buy a replacement screen? Then pull apart the cluster and solder the new screen in place of the old one?

If the issue is just the screen then there shouldn't be any issue with fitting a replacement. I am not sure how the screen is mounted in these as I haven't had to pull one apart yet but as you said it will most likely need to be soldered in..
