Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Advice needed: To buy a 2007 Golf GT Tsi or not to buy?

I am looking at getting another car, being in Tasmania there's not much for sale. I am considering a 2007 Golf GT tsi. Do these cause trouble like the mk6 models? I just don't want to buy something I'll regret later....

its done 167000kms, manual ..... Any advice etc.. would be appreciated

    thanks

I could put you onto a guy in Hobart with a mint 2007 or 2008 GTI DSG. He's been procrastinating for ages about whether to upgrade or not. The right offer would push him over the edge...

I think the GT twincharger is a better bet than the 118tsi version. My biggest concern would be if it was run on the right fuel due to the cost down there & only getting 98ron in the last few years.

ok i wonder what he would want for it? what colour? I didn't want to spend any more than 13500.

is there anything that i should specifically check on the twin charger one?

        Red IIRC

He's been offered more than that as as Trade on a Mk7.

I don't know enough about 1.4s to offer further advice. I was going to buy one in 2008 but there was a 6 month wait so I bought a 1.8tsi Octavia instead.

as far as the engine is concerned, it seems to be somewhat more reliable than the mk6 one

My 2007 GT Sport has done about 100000km's (just serviced for 155000km's) in the last 2.5 years and is going strong, but I am finding some odd electrical issues, some of which are because of mods that I have done to it, some due to age.
