  • Aftermarket HID Xenons on Jetta....

Hey guys. IM lookin at gettin some aftermarket 5000K HID's. Quick question though

on my jetta i got the halogen and inside the car, there is a little wheel that lets u adjust the headlights whether u want them tilted to the road or raised up to illuminate out further. If I replace the bulbs with HID's, will this feature stiill be in use?

Yes. I have aftermarket HID's in my car and I can still adjust them.

In saying that, I have a Mk4 so it may differ.

I thought having the halogen lights mean you need to replace the entire headlight assembly... not just the bulbs...

You need to install the balast that controls the HID as it runs at a different voltage.

U can't add a after market HID kit as xenons need projectors to project the light.

U can add a aftermarket but the light beam will be crap.

If u want xenons u buy oem headlight or a mk5 headlight that contains a projector and add xenon bulbs.

Suggest you read the thread that motootto (above) has posted.

They may not be up to the standard of factory lights, but they appear to light up the road very well

But there's no point of getting a kit from Japan unless it comes with its own projector. If your going to do it half assed you may as well save your self $$$ and buy one of these 6000K kits from China on ebay for $100 shipped.

My whole point is that you need a projector for xenons to work effictively and safely.

I think that there is a lot of aspects to consider with HID conversion.

There is a great deal more technology in an OEM HID solution than a 6000K bulb and ballasts - for good reason.

The manner in which the light is treated in the projector is significant factor in the effectiveness and the safety of such lighting.

                          Things also to consider are that OEM HID include such technology as;
                          *self levelling
                          *integrated cleaning

These are for safety of other motorists as the glare potential is extreme.

Read up on ADR 77/00 - Gas discharged headlamps.... IRC Most of the time the installation of these setups need to go through a road worthiness test (Have a look at the ADR, its on the DOTARS website somewhere but can't find it).

Cops also don't like a very bright light shone in their face and will most likely pull you over and give you a fine for having lights that dazzle (or something along those lines, same thing with having blue lights on the washers or Neon lights under the car....Very ambiguous offence)
