  • Give me a refund!

Just a interesting story I heard recently.

About 2 or 3 weeks a cousin of one of my friends took delivery of his brand new Golf GTI. He picked it up in the morning and went out for a drive, my mate his cousin and another friend of theirs' went for a bit of a drive. after a while they noticed the temp sensor was indicating that the car was overheating.

After letting it cool down they drove the car back to the dealer that same day. The service dept. found out that the fans were not coming on and were faulty. The new owner was somewhat pi$$ed off by this stage. He demanded that he get his cheque back, which he only gave to them earlier that morning, and rip-up the contract. Guess what the dealer did! They gave him back his money and tore-up the contract.

No you don't, not with a high-compression turbo engine! Engine temps have to be regulated perfectly, as things go belly-up very quickly.

He must have been giving it a REAL thrashing to get it to overheat with no fan!!

Usually they'll only over heat in traffic with no fan.. only takes abit of air while in motion to keep it cool.

But yeah, strange of the dealer to take it back! Lucky dude

I'm with you, sounds like an overreaction. It's a big call for the dealer to give money back on a new car after registering it etc. as there would be significant cost involved. Maybe the dealer figured it would be less trouble in the long term to send him on his way and buy a car elsewhere.

            Cheers

Did the dealer actually bother to do a pre-delivery on the vehicle, which of course, includes a road test?

I call BS too. "A cousin of one of my friends" ... my neighbours sister's friend's butcher.

And yes, shouldn't be driving a new car in such a way to make it overheat without a fan anyway.

                      Call it what you want.

Well apparently he did give it a bit. I don't know any more, in regards to what conditions he was driving in. Some people don't really care if its new or not they will still thrash a car either way. The same way I see people start their car cold and then thrash it up the street without warming it up first. Some people just don't have any respect for cars.

                        Apologies for the BS comment.

It's unbelievable that people do it really. That's why you have to be so careful when buying a car second hand.
