Haven't had much time to work on the car lately due to other commitments, yesterday I had a spare hour so I decided to put my RCD510 in. Looks really nice and gives the interior a bit more modern feel.

While replacing my old head unit I also discovered my bluetooth kit is an EGO Talk !? And another little component is wired in the main harness. I don't think I'll be playing around with wiring, so does anyone know how to install a 9W7 kit on a MKV Golf? I thought my old harness would have worked but I'll most likely be needing a new one now. If possible I'd like to get it to work with the steering wheel buttons as well (something about a CAN Bus Filter if I'm not wrong).

      Yeah that looks ****e.

It's pretty east to do. May not fit if you have understear drawers.

The Dension products are better as the control box fits behind the headunit, about the volume of two, 2.5 inch HDD's stacked on top of each other.

My 9W7 is tucked in behind my RCD510, and the microphone cable runs up my drivers side front roof pillar and along the front of the hoodlining, the mic is located inside the cavity of the roof console as per factory, works with no hassles at all.

The steering wheels volume controls work however I've still yet to get the phone button working, have to visit my mate Darkhorse Dev's sometime soon.

I don't have any drawers. I think I need a foam box thingy if I'm correct? I've already got the 9W7 module I just don't have a harness or a mic for it. I'll probably be able to use the current mic I got which is mounted in front of the instrument cluster. I just have no idea about the harness and how that will work.

How did you fit the module behind the radio? and did u mount it anywhere? Real Estate behind the radio is pretty limited from what it looks like in my car. With the phone button, I've read on another post that you need to get a filter for the canbus or code the can bus as the 9W7 doesn't work with the Red MFD.

We didn't use the foam box (which would normally be under the drivers seat if BT was factory fitted.

Yeah space is limited but the BT module can be tucked in behind with no issues.

I'd rather do that if it's going to save space, did you mount it with 2 sided tape?
Any idea on how to sort out a harness as well?

No tape, it's just tucked in, as you know it's very snug behind the head unit so it's not going anywhere, if I recall correctly Pete (Darkhorse Devopements a member here) removed the instrument cluster to run the microphone cable behind it and up the A pillar, he did it in minutes, it looks easy when you've done it many times (as he has).

I always run it up underneath the steering column and out the dash panel. Nearer I guess

My microphone runs like that, I'll probably keep it that way. I just need a harness for the 9W7 module I got. Probably need to code it too..

So it's been a while since I've updated this thread, and you could say there have been a few changes to my car !

Firstly, the bluetooth has been sorted out. I ended up purchasing a new harness from eBay and wired the whole thing myself. Surprisingly didn't need to code anything (the steering wheel controls don't work but I'll sort that out later when I got some more time)

I also converted all my interior lights to LED. I purchased a kit from eBay for $40 and surprisingly they work a treat !!

Fairly easy, just need to be a little careful when removing trim pieces (I didn't break anything ). Next up is license plate lights, which I believe need resistors (car will throw a fault, as the canbus is thinking a globe is burnt out due to the low wattage of the LED lamps)

In addition, I scored a GTI/R32 shifter (not in the best shape but I'll give it some love). Will be working towards upgrading that next
Finally, this is what has me the most excited out of all.. decided to do a unique upgrade which you will only find in American Fahrenheit edition GTIs..

Mate if you don't mind me asking where did you get the LED from? I'm planning on changing them aswell..

It has definitely been a while since I've had a chance to work on my car, so after about 2-3 months I decided to get out the tools last night.
Earlier in the thread I mentioned replacing the DSG T-Bar style shifter with a GTI/R32 trigger style shifter. I did just that last night. It was quite stressful, as I had to heat and twist the plastic bit inside the shift rod with a hairdryer. Thankfully it didn't snap
End result is great in my opinion and pretty much finishes off the look I'm going for in the interior.

My other project has been a new set of wheels which I bought ages ago but haven't had a chance to paint. Well I definitely have made progress and last night I laid down the primer! After continuous sanding and prepping the surface, I think my first paint-job turned out not too bad! The base coat is next which should happen in the next few days, however I'm still not 100% on whether I want to go gloss or satin black. Then some rubber will be needed Photo quality isn't great as this was done late into last night but here it goes:
