Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New to Brissy and eagerly awaiting.

    Hey everyone,

I have placed my order for a MY08 GTi and am eagerly awaiting its arrival in a month or so. I can't wait for its arrival and for my first drive. It was a load of fun test driving all the hot hatches out there, but the decision was easy. The Golf is a beautiful car and a great all-rounder (love the tartan seats).

I used to live in Sydney's north and frequented the "Old Road" (200kph '85 Alfa GTV6 run, yay) but I have recently relocated to Brissy and have no idea where to go for a fang or who to go with. Can anyone help? Are there any GTi get togethers/clubs in Brissy?

    Cheers

Welcome, you have come to the right place. Some really good folk on here. GTG coming up soon, will you have your car then? Take you for a ride in a oiler if you like!
      Cheers,
      Jamie

Dude, welcome, but just be wary of "rides in oilers".

May not be what you expected.

            Hey,

I won't have my car by then but I am keen to come for a cruise anyway. If someone is willing to give me a ride in one of their toys that would be sweet. It will definately add to the suspense that is already building. Just in case you haven't already realised, I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY CAR hehe. No GTI's in the group?

If Jamie takes him for a ride in his GT, I could see him changing his order

I'd love to go for a ride in an "oiler" but I don't know if I would change my order. I though the GTI had a sweet note to it.

does changing the exhaust void warranty? I saw some vids online of people with new exhaust systems that sounded great. I would be very tempted if it didn't void warranty

Do you have its VIN? You can track its progress on the ship. Mine's holidaying in Melbourne for the day tomorrow before it heads to Port Kembla.

Not many fans of the tartan seats, I'm just glad mine comes standard with leather... and I'm Scottish!

Dude, technically ANY modification can void warranty.

That said VW "seems" to be quite leniant on simple mods, but obviously it's totally your risk. Personally I'd keep the stock one in the garage and if something major happened ( very unlikely from just an exhaust ) it would end up on the VW again, if you get the meaning.

I am trying to get the VIN off my dealer at the moment. He is fairly helpful but he is new and it takes him time to sort things out. All I know is that it has been built and has left the factory. How do I track where the car is? Is there a website I need to go to?

Go the tartan. It matches the boy racer . I thought they would have been more popular considering they were on the original hot hatch many years ago.

Hmmmmm, anyone got a GTI with an aftermarket exhaust that that has a bit of time to fly past my place at speed to give me a listen?

Click on Cargo Tracking (near the bottom right).
                            Auto Cargo.
                            Plug in the VIN.

That will list a history giving you date and time when it was loaded and where. If it's not on there then it's likely not loaded onto a ship yet.

If you then click on the voyage code, it'll show a list of destinations on route and arrival and departure times. You can also google the ports and most of them will show you shipping ETA's. My car arrives in Melbourne at 16:30 tomorrow so not far to go now.

Cheers mate. I will ring the dealer tomorrow and see if he has made any progress with the VIN.

I bet you must be excited. I know I am and mine is still a while away.
