  • A Place For a Nice Spirited Drive...

    Any Ideas...?

Having lived in Germany for a few years, I am a forlorn lover of the Autobahn... and all the respect for the road that goes along with it.

In addition, owning a VW is like owning a Labrador, you can't keep either one happy in suburbia. So to be a responsible owner, I must satisfy the need for the Germanic beast to stretch its legs.

    Regards

I like the Buller Road, but maybe this time of year it is a little busier with the beginnings of the winter season...

Try Wakefield Park in NSW or the local race track

Head up through the Dandinongs, or up to Mt Buller...Or start at Wodonga, head toward Falls Creek, turn right at Towanga toward Germantown, turn left at Germantown, head over Mt Hotham to Omeo, then head to Bairnsdale...The best drive I have ever done...Its about 350km...and so much fun...Or you can head up to the Blue Mountains and go exploring...Do what I do...Get a map, look for the twistiest roads, and go exploring.

I grew up there, so I am biased!! Or you could head up the Old Pacific Highway to Newcastle, then Out to singleton, then down the Putty rd to Windsor, then up the Bells Line of road to Lithgow, then back up the Great Western Highway to Sydney.

The fun is in driving within your own limits...Take it from me, driving fast in a straight line in the NT is boring...All of my driving fun comes in the tight stuff using the first 3 gears.

I think we need to make a distinction here between a spirited drive and careless driving. the two in my mind are very different things.

In my opinion if you have nothing to contribute to the topic of the thread. There is no need to reply. so hows about we leave the silly fight there.

Having said that. There are plenty of nice roads in vic to drive.

Just grab a melways and have a look though. depends on the length of the trip you are after.

Black spur and reefton spur are fun outside busy traffic times.
Great ocean rd is the same.
Plenty of nice routes through the dandenongs as well
best road i have driven in vic was great alpine road. But that will be a 500km round trip from melb

What Tim said x 2. Please discuss destinations freely but not behaviours. We don't condone illegal activity but that's not to say you can't have a spirited drive within the laws.

The great ocean road is an all time favourite of mine and the speed limits still allows you to have the fun factor by utilising your cars handling characteristics .

                        Hi all,

I'm not a Golf owner yet, though am eyeing off a 5-door R32 as my car when I take a new job in a few months.

For the Sydney-based drivers, when I had my MY02 Liberty, my favourite drive was from Wiseman's Ferry to Gosford up through the Mangrove Mountain. The drive can be extended to start from Windsor, heading across to Wiseman's Ferry (via Pittown I think it is) and then on from there.

I definitely plan on taking the R32 out for this run once I get it!
                        Nothing to see here...

So, who is the sneaky censor who has been deleting posts from this thread ? Tim, 99gti or someone else ? I thought my post was reasonable, rational and not particularly provocative, and I didn't get a chance to defend myself, my post was just simply removed as if it never existed. What specific guidelines did I flout (that aren't regularly broken in numerous other threads) ?

Is deleting threads like this normal behaviour on this forum, or does someone have a bee in their bonnet on this particular subject ?

I deleted them as ultimetly they were not adding any value to the original post and the conflict within the thread was only building. It's not about defending yourself, we are all here to exchange ideas so we can come to our own conclusion. We are not here to have a conclusion forced upon us. The topic of discusion here is for places that are a good drive, not a debate about your moral stance on driving on public roads.

We are all car enthusiasts, and we are all aware the site doesn't condone illegal activities.

If you are not clear on why I deleted them, I'll highlight a few of the rules to your attention:

This forum is intended as an information source and so all sections will be edited to remove any irellevant comments. This preserves the integrity of our archive and makes the search function more effective.
                            2. PERSONAL ATTACKS. Any form of defamation will be deleted. Continuance will result in the user being banned.
                            3. OFF-THE-TOPIC CHAT. Any chat that detracts from the origin and intent of the thread will be discouraged by the moderator turning the thread back on track. If the moderator deems it necessary the off-topic posts of chat will be deleted.
