Mines a Mar08 build, i didn't get it either even when i was told it comes standard. I rang the dealer yesterday and they are fitting it on Thursday morning for me. All 08 GTI's are supposed to have it.
VW Osborne Park weren't so accomodating. Just picked mine up from the 7.5kkm interval service, they refused to retro-fit the AUX port free of charge. Some of the 08 GTI's on their lot have the AUX port, some don't. According to them it was considered 'standard' after a Mar/April08 build date, or something like that....Will now write a letter to the Dealer Principal...grrr.
Any "aux" input will be a sub-standard input for an ipod anyway. You want the deck playing the track so there is no digital to analogue loss.
meh digital sound, it anit worth the 800 odd clams for the ipod connection, plus the song names done even come up on the screens, pretty substandard ipod connection.
Although its not double size to fit a mk V, I got an alpine deck with 3 pre-outs and full colour 2 inch LCD that shows album art and track names, and will read ipod play lists for $600... It will also let me plug in any bus powered USB storage, and has Sat Radio and blue tooth car kit packs you can get for it.
I'd be going aftermarket personally for optimal quality, the VW sound options aren't too flash.
Only issue would be getting something that will not only fit, but will look ok with the interior.

Have you seen the MDI interface for the Golf? Offers usb and ipod support including full control of the ipod track name/details from the ipod and mp3 tags for mp3's. This replaces the old ipod cable.
