i don't understand your dealer - these cars more or less sell themselves so it's not as if they will be stuck with it on the showroom floor for any length of time.

Thanks for the advice all, currently having a few extra problems.
I'm now being told my trade is only worth $18k and not $22k as agreed, this price was agreed on the basis that they would hold that price until April (was $23k but they dropped to cover the wait). They said they have the right to change the trade but looking at the contract (page 1 of 1) there is no mention of this on there.
The contract for the old car would no longer be valid anyway as I signed a new one for this new car that is coming in earlier. The old contract stated May the 5th, the new one states June.
Should have an answer from them in the next hour as to what is happening. At this stage I'm pretty unhappy with everything.website: www.my-gti.com

Haha .. know where you are coming from steve_tdi. Am exactly the same .. you ponder ponder ponder .. and then when you make the decision lo and behold anything that gets in your way of getting it the next day.
I originally was going to get a black GTI but settled on a Tornado Red when I found out I would only have to wait two weeks rather than two or more months!

They sound very dodgy to me and you need to start standing up for yourself.
Read your contract and start hitting back. How can they honestly justify dropping your trade in value by $5,000. I would explode at them for this alone.
It seems this has become a little bit messy. I think you need to step back and have a look at the changeover price you are paying for both offers/contracts. You might need to bring in a car broker to get you a fair deal with a solid contract.
Also, as another point, if you don't want a sunroof don't pay for it, certainly at the very least don't pay the FULL RATE for a sunroof but a highly discounted one. I doubt any person who actually wanted it as an option paid that full rate.

I know my contract from my dealer stated that they have the right to re value the trade however it also stated that if the trade in is revalued and i am not willing to pay the difference then i have the right to cancel the contract.
Scan the contract conditions and email to me, I'd be happy to take a look at them for you if thats any help.Last edited by Guest; 18-04-2008, 12:40 PM.

Yeah,
There is definitely dodgy stuff happening there.
Maverick wants to purchase my cancelled order. He has placed an order for the car and yet my selling dealer has not received an order for the vehicle.
His dealer's price- well above that I paid and now a further shafting.
Seems to me that something simple- a cancelled order and a bloke who wants the car is being made much more complex by a dodgy dealer.
Mav, if I was you, I'd cancel the order with your dealer, take them to small claims, buy the car from my bloke (who does appear reputable) and get it shipped to you if need be.
You'll come out ahead $$$ (knowing what you have paid) and get to deal with salespeople with integrity.
For me, stories like this sour a buying experience and make you wonder what happened to customer service. Is this a specific dealer thing or a more global VW Australia problem?

Yes, defo get another dealer, if this is how much they are screwing you around to try and sell you a car then just think of the after sales support you will get. Not worth it IMO. i have refused to even urinate on the door of dealers for less than that, and that was after they had gotten my money and provided me with the vehicle of my choice (motorcycle). They were nice as pie and really easy to deal with until i discovered something that wasnt right.

When I purchased my car in December, I picked a car that was only 2 weeks away, placed order etc then magically that car became unavailable. However they found a car in a different colour with same specs plus a sunroof and wanted me to pay the difference. I said NO, they said ok pay half, I said im not paying an extra dollar. They said they would cancel contract & refund my deposit then. I said ok no worries, 10 mins later sales manager rings up and says ok you can have the sunroof for free.
Stick to your guns mate.

Well I have this pretty well resolved at this point.
Stuffed around by the dealer again this morning, basically they wouldn't move on their position despite the trade in not being subject to revaluation and me being explicity told that they would hold that valuation until April. Told them I will pick up my car that I'd already traded, they wanted half an hour and then called back to say nothing they can do so I said get my car ready and I'll collect and the deal is off. Hurriedly organised to re-register the car and re-insurance it (real happy about this, more money down the drain).
Collected the car from them (after waiting 30 minutes in the showroom), car reeked of cigerette smoke when I got in (I don't smoke and no-one has ever smoked it in the car) and I resisted going back in to complain.
Spoke to the dealer in Melbourne where the car was going to be coming from and found them very good to deal with and we went down the path of the option of buying from them but the figures didn't stack up in the end.
Off to Highway VW and ended up taking the white GTI 4 door with leather (someone on the forums mentioned that this was available as they canceled the order and replaced it with a R32 - can't think of his name... anyone??). Got a deal I'm happy with, I can keep my car for 4 weeks until it's ready (arrives in 2 weeks) and they will honor the trade in 4 weeks.
Very happy with them and they treated me fairly and gave me all the information that I needed without any bull****.
So at this stage I'm in a much better mood then I was last night/this morning. I didn't get the TDI but I'm sure I will just as happy with the GTI and as soon as I find the thread on the good headlight globes I'll get some of those to make up for the lack of bi-xenons and I'll spend some time pondering a car PC, RNS501, AVC9000 or similar to make up for the lack of sat nav.website: www.my-gti.com
