  • difference between the 2.0 TDI's (comfort vs sport)

I tried searching for the answer, as I'm sure this has been asked before...but no luck!

If someone can clarify the difference between the engine -- if they are both a 2.0 tdi - how did they make the sportline vers more powerful

    is it a mechanical variation?

Ultimately, are there ways beyond the chipping to make the comfortline 103kw model the same as the sportline?

    Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure. But my geuss is the maps. Perhaps slightly more boost (only a couple of psi) + appropriate changes in the map (ECU program) and hey presto + 20kw.

IMO I doubt there would be anything mechanically different. Turbo Diesel's are very tunable.

    That's just my 2C

There are 3 variants in the diesel to my understanding.

Comfortline came with the 1.9 Tdi (77kw) and the 2.0 Tdi (103kw)

Sportline came with the 2.0Tdi (103kw)

and GT Sport comes with the 2.0 Tdi (125kw)

The first 2 have now been replaced by

        Edition - 1.9 Tdi (77kw)

        Pacific - 2.0Tdi (103kw)

It is possible to chip the 103kw to 125 or more though the 125 has a higher compression ratio as standard to achieve the power increase.

Do you mean the sportline or gt sport?

If there is an increase in compression, and different injectors, makes my otehr statement pretty much wrong. although there would still be a different map, turns out it's not the only thing!

Oh well. happy to be wrong.

            Thanks All!

Guessing that retro-fitting new injectors would be lots of $$?

Path of least $$ resistance to getting more snap out of the 103kw is a chip then? Do they make those kind of chips that you can switch on/off for the 103 TDI 2.0? (beat the hell out of it mode vs highway driving economy mode)?

come on guys why always so much speculation!!! the gt tdi has a bigger turbo (vnt17) compared to the comfortline's vnt15. hence htats why the gt can be remapped to so much more power than the comfortline.

Read it in one of the motoring magazines I read on the train! As I recall, it's new injectors, higher compression and a tweaked turbo. Not sure if the new injectors are just the nozzle or the whole PD unit.

I thought it was also a larger turbo.

In the end mate, it depends what you're after.

If you don't want to fork out for the GT TDI, but still want the power of it, no worries, a chip I'm sure will take care of that, with out having to change injectors or turbos. + some intake and exhaust mods, will easily get the missing 20 odd kWs.

If you're after more power in general. Go the GT TDI because it has greater tuning ability.

                    There. sorted.

                    buy the GT

I already have the 103kw 2.0 -- buying the GT isn't an option

as for the chipping, yeah great -- already knew about that.

was inquiring about mechanical mod possibilities and pricing to enhance the 103kw version and bring it closer to the stock version of the higher powered GT sport model.

                        and THEN consider chipping --

                        cheers

In a few weeks I am going to dyno my 2.0 with some non ecu performance mods.

Main mod is the intake alterations.

I will post my results (in May when the dyno day is)

Ah yeah new injectors - I read a VW technical bulletin and they mentioned 'piezo' injectors rather than standard IIRC.

(Ontop of the different turbo + tune)

                            Chipped 103kw = 125kw

                            Chipped 125kw = 160kw+

I wish the tuners picked another number, 124 or 126 to avoid the confusion.

most of the tuners are dodgy as i reckon. the tdi's put out more than whats quoted by vw anyway so they're kinda claiming figures that arent entirely their own methinks.
