Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Best to get it scanned.

Could be several things, to be honest.

I'm here to help, my help would be advice to you to get a cable hooked up.

I have seen HUGE amounts of threads(even in local vw forum) about what may be wrong with my car, if check engine light is on.
Check Engine light just isn't something that can be diagnosed with gut. Or if it can, the cable may become cheaper solution.

Seriously, stop wasting time here asking, what might be wrong, use this time to get a local VW enthusiast to check your faults in exchange for beer or something.

            Just saying.

Have you checked that the engine is in the car still? I have heard that when the check engine light comes on, you need to go and reassure the motor that everything is going to be alright.

                fixed for you.

With no other symptoms it could be anything. It's like a 50 year old woman asking if her arse looks big in a particular pair of jeans - there's no answer that will satisfy the question.

You need to get the CEL scanned

We need the actual code, then you can google it for hits off ross-tech's wiki. Could be lots of things, how were you driving when it came back on?

Any other codes thrown with it? Could be a PCV valve if thrown with leaking intake fault codes also. If alone then likely to be an oxygen sensor, however as said the fault code is needed and correct diagnosis required.

was driving like a granny both times it came on and the second time I had it checked there was an intermittent intake fault as well.
