Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Position of handbrake

If you look at this picture here, the handbrake is on the driver side of the car, on the right of the cup holders:

I noticed in my Pacific that the hand brake is on the left hand side of the cup-holders, which isn't really a problem, but if you have short arms can be slightly uncomfortable.

Now I just asked a friend who also bought a new Golf and he says his is the same as mine. So just to confirm, is this just some clever photoshopping by VW?

This will be a shot from Europe with a RHD dash but the LHD console in the centre.

I would like to confirm that the UK cars are the same as ours, I do believe they are.

This is the case on mine as well. Similar to the reverse light being on the passenger side and hence providing no illumination when reversing, the conversion from LHD to RHD is not as complete as it could have been

More likely just a reversed photo of a LHD car.

For a while the LHD handbrake position felt a little weird, but I'm used to it now and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

That's what I thought too, but the tacho needle's at about 13,000 rpm when you flip it! (see attached) and it would be on the wrong side of the instrument cluster. Can't explain it otherwise If the pic hasn't been Photoshopped, it means that somebody forgot to spec it for the RHD market (or it got binned to save $$$!).

The handbrake annoys me less than the DSG manual position being on the wrong side for RHD (it should move TOWARD the driver, not away).

As for the reversing light, it's on the LHS, as the fog light needs to be on the outer (driver's side) for visibility reasons.

As for the indicator stalk... well let's not go there...

Indicator stalk is in the correct position.

Yeah - I can still indicate whilst writing a text with my right hand

Edit: in before other right hand references.

Wow - great eye for detail there, Barney

                  13,000rpm - hmmmm - it's obviously not a diesel, then

Thanks. Occupational hazard - I mess with photos at work.

It's more a curse than anything else... I mean, who else noticed it's a RS manual GT Sport (not GT)? Bugger - I can't tell the TSI/TDI part!

Looks like they've bummed around with the A/C displays - they don't glow THAT bright during daylight (if they did, then the tacho should be equally bright). See, it's curse...

                      Absolute Rubbish.
                      Why post incorrect information..
The GT Sport is coming into the country in either the TDI or TSI

He just had his facts backwards, honest mistake I'm sure.

The original GT line that came to Australia only had the 1.4L TSI

The new GT Sports line has the 1.4L TSI and the 2.0L TDI

It's a GT Sport because the GT (TSI) has the red brick pattern on the side bolsters as well - the Sport has it on the centre panel only, with plain grey on the bolsters (nerd alert!).

Can't tell if it's an oiler 'cause I can't see if it has a boost gauge or not.

BTW, in the Golf brochure there's a full leather interior shown with the RHS handbrake as well.

                          Attached: GT interior

PS Where the heck did this thread go?
