Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well it didnt technically go bang it just stopped workign properly! 15000km on the clock and 24 hours out of its first service and the check engine light comes on and it wont rev any more than 2grand in any gear. Me thinks the turbo has **** it self!

Goes on the back of a towtruck tomorrow back to Austral NEwstead in Brisbane. Lets hope I at least get a loner car to get around in

It might just have put itself in limp mode?

Limp mode can be triggered by the dumbest things - don't think it's necessarily a buggered turbo - my TSI did it because it thought there was an A/C problem. There wasn't, but a reset and all was sweet. A fault in your exhaust back pressure can trigger LHM - all it's doing is trying to protect the engine.

Either way, let your stealer have a look 1st, & be positive!

Definitely could have been limp mode. Did you switch it off, wait for 30 seconds then switch it on and try again ? (that usually resets the limp home mode). Even if it does go OK after that there should be a fault code recorded in the ECU that your dealer needs to investigate.

Just the check engine light, no others ? (eg DPF)

Fingers crossed it is a simple fix like a faulty brake light switch, or your dealer has dislodged a pipe or something during the service.

PS 15,000Km in 4 months - just as well you bought a TDI or fuel costs would be sending you to the poorhouse

John Kelly is the service manager there, good guy and he loves the GT TDI.
Kevin the workshop controller is the guru VW tech, he's the guy that VW call when they've exhausted all other avenues! You'll get looked after.

Yeah, im disappointed in a kind of sadistic way. always good to hear stories of cars disintegrating in a spectacular way (at least when its not your own). though god for me being a GT TDI owner that its not a major issue too.

Yes thought the headline would be enticing

Well I got it back today and the Mass airflow sensor was replaced and something called the height sensor\charge pressure sensor (no idea what that is).

Drove to work and all was fine touch wood

Yes indeed I got the TDI because I'm averaging 3-4000km a month! Got sick of pumping 98ron into my rexy

Hmmm... usually MAF sensors are bulletproof these days. Height sensor/charge pressure - sounds like it measures barometric pressure so the ECU compensates when you're high up in mountains with thinner air?

Nahhh... leg out of bed doesn't make that much noise. An exploding piston in a red 202 doing 7000rpm makes the ultimate explosion in an engine!

7000rpm??? Oh, you mean TWO x 202s - And you know why: the valves start floating at about 4000rpm, so it'll never even get to 4500rpm!

"Leg out of bed"... what a crackup! Love it!
