  • Mystery button...

Had my MY08 Jetta for 3 days now, and I'm trying to figure out what the dual function on my air recirculation button does. There's two symbols/LED's: one for standard recirc (OK - know what that does), and one with the same symbol and a A in the centre.

Not listed in the manual anywhere. Automatic recirculation??? That doesn't make sense.

Build date is Jan 08, so maybe the manual is slightly out of date.

    Any ideas?

Is it the one with the 'A' in the bottom half of the right dial?

If it is that one, I thought it meant the aircon botton. So if the light in the "A' is on then it's using air-con compressor and if it's off then it's just using the normal fan.

Auto recirc function. This will draw air from outside the car primarily and when some poluted air is sensed it will run in full recirc.
To run the system properly you should always have this on and its actually a great feature. They borrowed that from BMW

Another thing too... don't any of these consultants know how to do a proper handover these days??? All of that stuff should have been shown to you during the handover

          Thanks guys,

It's definitely a recirc function of some sort - and Jaymz has come through with the goods.

I ended up leasing my Jetta, but the lease company sourced the car from a Sydney dealer. The fleet manager was going to drive it down to Canberra but I made them truck it, cause I didn't want 300km of highway km's on my brand new TDI. Anyway they came down and it was a bit of a rapid handover, so I think some of the details were glossed over.

Damn that manual's a big read

          Cheers,

Is this something new on the MY08s? My recirc button is just a simple recirc button in my TFSI. All Jettas have the same dual-zone A/C don't they?

I wouldn't mind betting that it indicates when lit that the recirc is active as when you use the windscreen washer or are in reverse. My MY07 Jetta goes into auto recirc but has no indication.

When you press the button multiple times it cycles between the three: off, normal, auto

I might hit up VW for an updated manual, because the Controls liftout in mine is dated May 07, and doesn't mention it.
