  • Jetta Mark V 2.0 FSI Turbo...your thoughts?

    hi guys
as some of you may or may not know i was in the market for a GTI golf but now im rethinking to get a jetta FSI turbo instead....

besides the fact that one is a hatchback and one is a sedan, and that the GTI has harder suspensio, better brakes, can some of you name the pro's and cons of both??

and also, for those who have purchased a jetta FSI turbo... 1) is it as good as a GTI and 2) how much did u pay drive away?

    thanks in advance

Bit difficult to tell whether the Jetta is as good as a GTI but the Jetta is a great car to drive. Guess it's horses for courses, Jetta fills a different role to the GTI, I like it because it is a bit of a sleeper, no one expects the "plain Jane" VW to perform the way it does.

Obvious difference is the suspension, I wasn't aware the brakes were different, but of course the engine is the same and if you are comparing DSG GTI the gearbox is the same and as you are probably aware the Jetta TFSI comes only with DSG.

Build quality on the Jetta (built in Mexico) is great.

As far as price is concerned, I've had mine 18 months and don't have it to hand at moment, probably irrelevant after 18 months anyway.

    Cheers

wow! awesome! thanks for the reply george!

yeah cuz im lookin at a jetta now..... i had a ride in both the GTI and Jetta TFSI and power delivery on both is very smooth.....not like your regular turbo's in that it isnt very savage in the delivery but rather a smooth constant right throughout the revrange.....

i thnk the dealer said that there are diff. brakes on the jetta compared to the GTI....GTI has bigger? or harder brakes, or something like that....i know the GTI has better suspension and the paddle shifts and different steering wheel

TFSI = means Turbo FSI yes?

        G'day,

I've had my Jetta TFSI for about 5 months now and I can't fault it. Build quality is excellent.

The brakes are the same as the GTI's in terms of size, the atmo and diesel jettas have smaller brakes.

The only inconvenience I found is that I'd since taken up moutain biking and haven't bought roof racks so putting the bike in the back of the car is a bit of a hassle each time but that's hardly the car's fault since i didn't have biking in mind when I bought it.

DSG has worked without any issues, the Jetta doesn't have the flappy paddle gear shifts in the GTI.

To me getting a GTI is paying an extra 2k for firmer suspension, slightly sharper handling, more sporty seats and the image of the GTI (which I may add is quite nice )

One thing you might consider is the resell value of both cars. Although they might drive similar since it's a very similar package when it comes time to sell/trade in the car the GTI may be a little ahead of the Jetta TFSI.

        Cheers mate.

You can get 4 bodies in the back of a Jetta - maybe only 1 and a bit in the GTI

have had our jetta for a coupla months now... done under 3000k's without any problems... have found it to be a little bit of a sleeper also.
cruises really well and comfort levels are great. boot size is great also as we have a 6 month old to carry around and the baby seat fits in without compromising the front seat position.
cant compare it to a gti as i wanted an R32 initially then found out about bub on the way... so never test drove a GTI coz i new i would be spewing about not getting an R32..
now the buggers release an R36!!! Do'h!
got mine for under 40k with 18" Charlestons, sunroof, tinting, towbar.

good luck, its a difficult choice and will come down to your individual circumstances and what you want the car for.

It all comes down to personal taste.
I was looking at the Golfs and Jettas,as well as everything else, but went for the Jetta as thought it was better value.
I also beleive that the Mexican build quality is as good as the best from anywhere else.
The South African build quality can be a bit patchy/I am from South Africa as well...ha ha.
The Jetta is superb,if you went for it you would not be disapointed.
And look how popular they have become, much more so than the Bora which it replaced...and which was also a great car, just a bit over priced in this market.

                ahhh thanks for that anthony

i got quoted this for a jetta

-2.0 TFSI in silver (paying the extra for the metallic paintjob as i was told only white is the non metallic colour, thus cheaper)
                -DSG auto
                -Leather interior

TOTAL = $45,000 incl. on road.

to me, this seems a tad high and I think that the dealer can go lower....what do u guys think?

The dealer can DEFINATELY go lower.
Which dealer did you do to?

                  I've responded to your message.
                  Hope it helps.

                    Stephen8152,
I got my Jetta TFSi in Jan 08 and have put over 6K on the clock. The car is fully optioned minus the 18" wheels and bixenons. "Its a wolf in sheeps clothing" as some on here said before. I can't speak more highly of this car. Have not had a problem and fall more and more in love with the car the more I drive it.

I paid just under 48K on road.

Which dealers have you been to?

                    Tom

Earlier this year (or was it late last year?) they were offering no-onroad costs on Jetta's including the TFSI. A mate of mine was so impressed with my Golf that he decided he needed a Jetta TFSI. Picked it up with leather for around $43500, and this is in the stamp duty capital of Australia, so I say push them a bit harder. By the way, he loves it, especially coming from a Magna.

                          thanks for everyones input!
i am now a proud owner of a silver jetta TFSI DSG w/ leather!
paid the deposit today and in 2 weeks time i'll be driving away from the showroom floor...

getting a full tank of fuel, mats, leather seats, auto DSG and in silver....

in the end the GTI didn't fully satisfy my parents as this will also be my parents car as well as mine..... they preferred a sedan so i compromised that if we get a jetta, lets get a jetta TFSI! hahaha

a bit sad that i didnt get a white GTI but hey! its a jetta TFSI which is like a GTI with a boot basically (bar the subtle differences like steering wheel and firmer suspension on the GTI etc)

                          overall, VERY happy!!!!
