  • 2008 Mark V Golf GTI....price?

    Hey guys I'm new here
names Steve and I'm in the market for a brand new Golf GTI.
I previously had a Honda and now I'm wanting to try something european

Im just wondering though, for all those people that have GTI's, how much did you pay for yours?

For me, I'm wanting leather seats and sunroof, and i know theyre both options, but im wanting to get a rough idea as to how much I can expect to fork out....

And also, Whats the difference between a GT sport and GTI? Im a total noob when it comes to VW's as this wll be my first VW ever....

any help or input will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

    ***EDIT***

I'm wanting an Automatic gearbox (im assuming thats called the DSG?)

wow you've got a world of good news coming your way pal!

dsg is an automatic shifting manual. arguably the best 2 pedal gearbox ever made (for want of a better term lol).

    differences between gt and gti:
gti has more power and is much more tunable
    gti gets more buckety seats
gti gets different wheels (although the same size as the gt)
    different grilles
gti gets sideskirts and better rear bumper.
can get the gti in 3dr

other than that they're identical; some say that theres a slight difference with teh suspension but i reckon its the same on both. oh and the gt tdi will use much less fuel.

with bargaining you could get a 3dr gti in manual with cloth seats and no sunroof on road for 40k. so with dsg leather and sunroof i reckon you could keep it easily under 45k. just estimates mind you.

welcome to the vw world pal!

hi mischa thanks for your prompt reply!!

so basically the GTI is just a little bit better in a few areas than the GT?

also, how much less fuel does the GT TDI use? i believe this is the diesel version...but ive read somewhere here that for short distances, petrol or diesel, the difference is negligable....and also diesel takes a longer time to warm up as well?

im planning on using this car for short distances (no long distances like, for e.g, woollongong or something...)

So far, im planning on getting a black 5 door Mark V Golf GTI DSG...

is there a big performance difference compared to the 3 and 5 door GTI's? 0-60, 0-100 and 1/4 mile times?

yes you're right the differences are rather subtle between the gt and gti. however if you dont drive very much it wouldnt really make as much sense to go for the tdi (tdi is the diesel, thats what i have). just depends on if the extra money is worth it for you to get the gti over the gt tsi (about 5k i think). be sure to drive them all though and thrash the crap outta the dealers cars

do you plan on chip tuning the car when you get it? a chip tuned gti will give around 190kw of tyre shredding action hehe. as for quarter mile times there was a thread around somewhere but from what i can remember a stock gti runs high 14s but someone can confirm that. 3dr or 5dr it makes hardly any difference, if any at all.

ahh i see....wow! thats great! i plan to chip it and probably upgrade the suspension and nicer rims later on and put my little personal touches on the car (strictly no RICE!!!) , but thats in about a year's time , or 2....

I prefer a 5 door as i like practicality and also, this will be my daily driver as well...

I dont think a TDI is worth it in my case, i much prefer going for a GTI as I guess im somewhat of a performance nut hahaha!

Also, in terms of looks and performance, whats the difference between a 5door Golf GT Sport TDI and a 5 door Golf GTI?

I know the TDI is dual charged and is a diesel engine whereas the Golf is petrol.... but other than that, whats the performance like on both when compared to one another side by side?

and the cosmetic differences as well....

also, where is this car made from? as in where is it manufactured and put together? for e.g i know that the new honda accord's are made in thailand and imported here because of the free trade agreement aus has with thailand....
so just wondering where the mark V is made?

TDI is just a turbo charged 2.0L diesel if i'm not mistaken. The TSI is a twin charged (super + turbo) 1.4L petrol engine. Both give the same engine power, but you get a stack more torque with the diesel engine.

As for where they're made, I think 5 doors are assembled in South Africa, and 3 doors in Germany, I'm not sure if that's changed since but that's what I remember being told by the dealers when I got my TSI.

You have 3 cars to consider: the GTI, the GT (TSI), and the GT (TDI).

If you own a Honda (I do too), the diesel may be a bit of culture shock, but try it anyway.

All 3 have a different personality. Drive them all (back to back, preferably) and then go home & sleep on it. My 2c.

                          ahh thnks for that barneyboy
i'll drive all 3 but i have plans to buy the GTI anyway...but we'll see how it pans out

also, which dealer is preferred to buy from? i.e which dealer does most pple praise? i hear barloworld at 5 dock is pretty good? and theres been numerous complains about the denlo group in parramatta, although i hear that the denlo service centre is better than the denlo dealership?

and for servicing my mark V GTI, how much can one expect to pay on avg per service? (of course it differs each time but rough approximation)

Sorry for all the bombardment of questions...

just one thing. stay the F away from chatswood classic cars as though your life depends on it lol. i can recommend hornsby.

and yes all golfs except the r32's and the 3dr gti's are made in south africa. 3dr gti's and r32's are made in wolfsburg germany.

looking forward to another mkv joining us on a cruise... i'm usually the odd one out

i called barloworld in 5 dock and they said that for a base GTI model with no options.....

it will cost me approx 46500 drive away

and with the leather and sunroof, it'll be about 51000 drve away

                              this was before negotiations....
obviously depending on how good my bargaining skills are, how much can one expect to get a GTI for? i.e the best price...or rather....a decent price?
