Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • GTI/Jetta Turbo Intake

Just wondering if anyone has tried to remove the OEM air filter from the engine cover and used a pod filter and similar thing instead? (i.e. With the same engine cover but installed a aftermarket pod filter to it)
What is the advantage or disadvantage by doing this. Will this harm the engine?

    Cheers

pod intake under the bonnet is going to net warmer air entering turbo and possibly less power as a result. Have you searched for similar threads posted here previously on this topic?

yes i have tried to search for similar tread.
The difference for GTI/Jetta is, you are not just remove the air box and chuck in an carbon fibre air filter with feeding air from front of the car. Because there is an air filter inside the engine cover.
What i want to know is that, if removed the original air filter from the engine cover (using the same engine cover) but connect an after market CAI to the existing engine cover. Will it work?

the stock engine cover doesnt fit when you put a cold air intake in.

        there isnt enough clearance.

your options are to buy after market engine cover, neuspeed or evoms or leave it bare.

otherwise try a k&n drop in filter with stock engine cover and stock air intake.
