Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Headlamps Replacement

    Hi All

I just got my head light bulbs replaced on my mk5 r32 by my local mechanic, i realised its not as bright and looks like its like the light is shinning downwards.

Do i need to get the lights adjusted so it sets in the middle by a VW dealer?

    Cheers

Sounds like he hasn't put the bulb in properly...

You just unplug the xenon adjuster and turn the car on. Then turn it off plug it back in and turn it on. Then they self level. If that doesn't help the problem try the following below Henry. Do not try the following below until you have tried this!

          My suggestions is:

          1. Park on a level surface in front of a wall.
          2. Adjust beam up or down until the beam cutoff on the wall is level with the lamp. Note position of beam cutoff.
          3. Move car back a couple of meters.
          4. If the beam cutoff moves, adjust as required back to level of the headlamp.
          5. Keep moving the car back and forward until the beam cutoff stays at a constant level.

The little white screws (adjusters) is what you need to adjust Henry on your MKV Golf R32. The inner one is up-down and the one between the front guard and light is left. Could possibly be broken sensors? But I highly doubt that unless your mechanic did something he should not have.

I have got a VAGCOM cable and would be more than happy to look if something is required to calibrate them to their middle position. If there are no faults and you have physically checked both front and rear sensors and levelling rods, then I would perform the full re-setting procedure which re-learns the middle position. It is done with VCDS or at your dealer. Did you put the correct bulbs in? May I ask what bulbs you used?

This can also be done on VAGCOM as show here in this link Henry - Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Xenon Headlamp Adjustment

Sounds like bulb not sitting right or a poor quality bulb. Buld replacement doesnt... well shouldnt have any effect on your adjustment.
