  • Need some suggestions, lowing! MKV GTI

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. Im thinking of lower my car. I read some many discussions on either replace the spring and shock together to just the spring will be fine. Im don't have the $$ to get both of them. Im just thinking if shock is not really needed. I may just put in on later on. Im going with H&R Sport or VWR springs. Any suggestions?

I would council against just fitting springs. I am pretty certain any std shock still in use today on a mk5 would be well past it's best. I have seen it done many times, cheaping out on suspension, by not doing the shocks too.

I am doing it myself on my Polo but I knew the outcome and my labour is free.

Please do yourself a favour and buy a kit with shocks.

What happens is the shocks wear over time and are less effective at damping the oscillations of the springs, so you get a really bouncy ride. The lower and stiffer the springs the worse the problem is.

It wouldn't matter if the roads were perfect but none of them are.

      +1 to the above.

At a minimum at least replace the front dampers as you have to remove them to do the springs.

If it was me, I'd look for a set of coil-overs - even a good set of 2nd hand ones off the For Sale section. Then you can adjust the stance exactly how you'd like it.

Good idea. I too did the springs thing first then I did coli overs after - should have just coilovers from the start. Like mentioned before there are a lot that come up for sale 2nd hand so keep an eye out in the for sale section here.
