  • somewhat sad day for my mkv gti

    a painful day...

today started off when driving out of my driveway and 80m down the road. stopping to make a right hand turn.

then, a neighbour's crazy dog came out of nowhere and "attacked" my car. i could hear him growling etc but couldn't see him in my rear view mirror.

i pulled over, and found out that the dog attacked my LHS rear skirt. teeth marks, indentations, scratches. if it was an old car, no probs...but this is my pride and joy.

the neighbour has agreed to pay to fix it - but i can't exactly get them to pay for replacing the rear skirt. so i will get the damage filled in, sanded etc, and get the skirt colour coded and pay for the cost myself. all those in brisbane, let me know details where to get it done...want a quality job...not cheap and nasty.

a couple of hours later, i took my car to the local hand wash cafe (a reputable one as well), only to find two large scratches in areas where a cloth would have been used. the carwash claims that they are very careful, and if a cloth is dropped on the floor, staff automatically throw it out and pick up a new one. quote "if people in the cafe or other staff happen to spot this, they will make sure it is rectified". yeah right, as if the bloke behind the counter making a latte is going to have his eyes fixed on the washers/driers 100% of the time to watch their every move.

i drove off, never to return to the car wash again. so for everyone that lives in brisbane, beware of the hand wash cafes.

so i will now be getting my rear skirt coded, and have two scratches to fix.

I was very happy with the job The Bump Shop did on my 02 Freelander - a dark metallic grey. I swerved to miss a silly bint who pulled out on me at a T junction, and instead of T-boning her car and killing her, I dragged the side of my car down the front of hers. So the whole side of the vehicle was panelbeaten and resprayed.

That was when it was 6mths old. After 4yrs (I traded it at 4.5yrs) I could never ever see any paintwork matching problems, and I am super fussy about that stuff.

How bad are the scratches, maybe they can be buffed out, or if worse, get a detailer to look at it. they're pretty good (GENerally) so they should be able to fix it.

Do a search on QUIXX scratch system. I think you can get it on E-Bay from a guy in the UK.

It might be worth trying for the scratches.
