Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Seriously noisy radiator fan!

    Hey Guys,

    I've got a 2.0 FSI Golf N/A.

I recently had my Thermostat housing replaced and now it's been returned, I'm noticing the Fan on the front of the car is going crazy fast and crazy loud!

Mate of mine said it was like a plane taking off.

Question: There are 2 fans on the front of the car but only 1 of them was spinning. Is the 2nd just for the AC or should they both be running at the same time regardless?

I've done abit of online research and I'm getting conflicting information.

    Any help would be great!

Hey mate. Hard yo give you a definite answer online. Common causes for constant running of the fans are
    - ambient temp sender unplugged/faulty.
    - coolant temp sensor unplugged/ faulty.

If the thermostat housing has been replaced I would make sure that the temp sender has been plugged in again.
Like I said hard to give you an answer without physically seeing the car or seeing/knowing exactly what the person who did the housing has also removed.

Arrgggghhh I am so over this car! Engine warning light has returned!

I'm contemplating writing it off into a ditch and walking away!

Mate I would take your car to a reputed vw specialist in your area or your latest dealer.. where abouts are you from? The engine you have did have some notorious issues with the factory fitted components and most garages dont know /pick these faults up. Before you get too dissatisfied with the car you may find the actual problem is only a $20 part all along. Hang in there. The 2.0l na while not the most lively engine in the range is still a great engine.
