  • Unbelievable Insurance Prices

Well, as the thread title may suggest. I am surprised how cheap my insurance is going to be.

I have just received quotes from both RACV and AAMI for my 2008 VW Golf GT Sport TDI DSG which should be in my driveway on Friday.

AAMI quoted $644 with a new for new 12 month replacement and $500 excess.
This price included the tinted windows, different suspension and 18" wheels as mods.

RACV quoted an amazing $470 with a 24 month new for new replacement and $500 excess. This also included all my listed mods.

I am amazed as when i rang about 4 months ago for an insurance quote it was around the $750-$800 mark.

My 2001 Clubsport, I still pay $1100 per year.

Mate I'm paying $750 ( monthly debit, yearly was high 6's ) to AAMI for a $500 excess with full market value replacement. Like Steve, I've had a minor prang in the Ford last year, so I'm a rating 2 level criminal.

Just wait till you go a fortnight between servo fills, the savings continue, it's amazing.

You've more good suprises yet in store mate

Yep my GTI is cheaper than my 5 year old naturally aspirated Subaru Impreza was - go figure!

About $800 a year in Perth, with 4 years new car replacement if written off, unlimited glass breakage, $100 excess, and no claim bonus protection. Western QBE.

4 years new car replacement, thats excellent.
It would be a real shame if something really bad happened to your GTI in 3.5 years.!!

That was the clincher for me, could have got cheaper insurance with RAC, but they only offer 2 years replacement.

              Are you offering?!

Surely there has to be some contributing factors to that price ? (dodgy driver/s, license points, accident record, postcode, young driver, not garaged, zero NCB etc)

I Just insured a newly acquired 8L S3 with RACWA, agreed value for $27k, with extensive modifications noted and agreed.

Premium was $950 with $200 excess, which i think is superb. the policy is open which means my 17 yr old son is permitted to drive also, and I just need to pay an additional $650 excess if he's to blame

                          Geez Bazza.
That one fits into the unbelievable category, only the other end of it.
Guess you wont be renewing the policy with them then.
I pay about $1100 now for a VXII 5.7l Clubsport which is modified with exhaust and engine work with RACV

I pay 1260 for my R32 and consider this a bargain - (last car was 1500 per annum)

30yo, St Kilda, 1 at fault claim (a d*ickhead hit my car in a carpark and didn't leave a note), no speeding fines (touch wood)

Consider that premium a bargain for St Kilda - the area pretty much adds 500-600 bucks to any premium.

Chardy - thats a pretty good deal you have there for the GTI too - last time I checked the GTI was around 1500 for me......that was with web quotes when I was bored ****less one time at work

$1,400 odd per year for my TDI DSG Comfortline.

Only 26 though and pretty much near the centre of Sydney (Elizabeth Bay).
