  • GTi power with aftermarket ECU

    Hi all,

New to the forums but pretty interested in getting a Golf GTi V

Looking at the DSG version and see the 0-100km time is 6.9sec

Looking for abit more power and seen you can get these APR ECU that apparently bring it up to 188kw. I assume there are other ECU's also available...

I guess what I am really after if not so much claimed power figures (which could mean anything on paper) but if anyone knows what this actually relates to in real life in say 0-100km with ECU? also with other mods...exhaust etc?

When is it too much power for the front wheel drive GTi? Would be pretty keen to get the GTi in the low 6 sec high 5sec ?

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!!!

The tuning you are talking about is a literally a Software change not an actual ECU replacement...

There is also lots of contention about power output figures etc between different tuning companies (APR,GIAC,REVO, Bluefin etc) and 0-100 times are probably even less reliable because it depends on driver, conditions etc but is safe to say that with any of these companies ECU reflash you wont be dissapointed, with the right Turbo back exhaust and Cold Air Intake you will get a bit more power as well.

    Have a look at this....

these are dyno figures not comepeting against anyone, just to see the changes with different setups...proves itself really.

People have said DSG isnt set up to deal with the extra power/torque long term, perhaps...who knows...

Either way you will be stoked

Thanks for clearing that up, still got abit of researching to do pretty keen on getting a GTi, just wouldnt mind it abit faster comming from a WRX

I know the driver counts for a lot for 0-100 times but its a more realistic figure compared to what dyno sheets tells you as not all dyno's are the same

Has anyone done any real world testing with 0-100km times, quarter mile times with mods such as the ECU with Exhaust, just ECU alone etc?

The thing is with the GTI, especially with DSG, its faster than it seems.

Someone can probably correct me but there is a guy in Sydney (Tiny GTI, is he a member here guys? i know hes on vortex) who runs GIAC setup who clocked a 13.776 @ 160 kmph, not sure on 0-100 time.

13.7sec is a nice quarter mile time I'd be happy with just hoping that wasn't doing a huge amount of mods...$$$

Would that be just with exhaust and chip??

Im pretty sure it was Turbo back exhaust, GIAC ECU flash and intake. Probably less than $5k worth of kit.

Seb (Bug_Racer) will probably be able to tell you if he sees this thread as i think he did the work?

Just remember to nto get caught up in the "what chip is better" malarkey. YOU can get trial runs with APR and GIAC, give them a go and see what suits you best.

Thanks gives me a decent idea of the mods and times

Is launch control stock on all Golf GTI V years in DSG?

                  Launch Control

I thought launch control was purposly disabled on the Golf GTI's and you have to do it manually (sports mode, ESP off, 2400 RPM and release brake?). I have a 2008 Golf GTI with DSG. Where is the launch control?
