Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well I have had my GTI for one week now and couldn't be happier. Close to 1000km on the clock and all of it pleasrable driving.

What do I like about the GTI?

The interior and fitment is fantastic. I didn't notice it during my test drive, but once I drove the GTI for a day or so I hopped back in the corolla and the difference was amazing. The seats are so comfortable and whereas the corolla felt loose or had a lot of slack to things, the GTI felt precise. Obvioulsy time will tell with that one.

The power and how smoothly and quickly it gives it to the driver. The pick up was superb out of corners in particular. It was very easy to adjust to the accelerator .. no unexpected surprises or jittery acceleration!

The handling. The GTI felt like it was glued to the road. Around one corner I went into a little agressively it just rolled through with just a short change in steering.

The look. It has a nice agressive stance but is not overstated with huge spoilers on the bonnet etc.

What don't I like about the GTI?

There are a few things I dislike about the GTI but they are well and truly overcome by the good points. However they are

Indicator stalk on wrong side. I have manual and therefore it takes more planning than normal to indicate as you downshift.

The reverse light in my opinion is on the wrong side as well. When reversing I cannot see clearly at night. We needed to do a three point turn at night and it was a bit touch and go .. may have to get the reverse sensors retro fitted.

The scope of vision out the rear window is limited compared to my old car.

The back seats are uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time.

As can be seen the good far outweighs the bad hence me loving it soooo much!

    Nice on Phil.

I have had my R32 since Thursday and covered about 600 kms - a good effort with all of the the sport, nights out on the piss I have had over the long weekend.

I am totally in love with my car. I thought I was with the Alfa, but I now realise we were just good friends . Taking her for some spirited drives along the back roads of Richmond was fantastic, even if she is now covered in dirt from it.

The rear vision one was interesting. For me, it is sooo much better than my 147, you would probably think you were driving a lambo jumping from a corrolla to the 147

      wrong side?

Glad you are loving it!....have had mine for almost 3 years and interior is still as solid as the day i picked it up, so i wouldnt have any concerns there!

With the vision problems....i know what you mean....i think is due to the base of the window line going up due to the styling.

Ain't that the truth We had a 147 too prior to the GTI. The 147's visibility was appalling.
