Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you get more smoke then it would indicate that the car was expecting more air and is running on richer trims when the modshack is on. Therefore, performance gain with modshack!

I notice my TSI is much smoother with a pod filter at low revs also. I think the factory system has a lot of restriction unless the car is sucking hard.

so given what you've said here, i have a definite problem that needs resolving. after a 300km round trip to the gong and back i have a definite flat spot, hesitation, and stutter. not pronounced, my passenger didn't notice, but i definitely noticed. not happy.

maybe i need a dyno tune and steinbauer p-box to fix it

Mikinoz - cleared the spike again but i can get flow through it easily. something else is awry, not to mention the intake shroud still leaning on the fan.

without saying the obvious, can i assume that the shroud lying on the offside fan (thereby stopping the fan from spinning) would have zero effect on the acceleration of the engine?

just want to cover off all problems, regardles of how dumb my question appears.

This may sound strange, but is there any chance the modification has increased the effect of an existing problem? It may be a faulty MAF, and now the problem is just having more of an impact...

Where is the flat spot? Can you reproduce the hesitation or is it inconsistent?

Happy to swap my MAF on to yours to see if it resolves the issue. SMS me, I can find some time one night this week (tonight even).

interesting... a faulty or failing MAF has been made worse. its an easy swap hey? those 2 hex screws and out she pops?

as for flat spots, maybe we need a test drive (half an excuse...) but from memory it shudders (like the feeling of when a car will stall if its in 3rd going 5km/h, but worse) at speeds below 20km/h in 2nd and revs about 1,200 from memory.

i haven't noticed the smoothness as you have, if anything i have noticed the abruptness of the boost (not entirely a bad thing mind you).

maybe its me and my overblown expectations on a world-beating 4,000,000 Nm mod and you might find it ok. its just i can't help but shake the feeling that its wrong somehow.

righto - problem solved thanks to Mikinoz.

the hesitation i was "thinking" was there is normal and to be expected. the intake now sits nice and solidly in place and in line with the required air flow, and doesn't fall foul of the fans. a VERY good night's work, plus a chance to stand 100ft away from the car and lsten to it approach, now hungry for a small toddler.

yup, probably going to do a sound/video bite tomorrow night. admittedly the video might be dodgy but the sound will be clear.
