Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Jetta drivers door lock problem

Just a quick question. I think that my drivers door lock has given up. It has been playing up for the last couple of months where it would lock just fine, but unlocking was a lottery. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt. Anyhow, i noticed that the orange lock symbol on the drivers door lights up when i try to unlock it and it fails. Is this trying to tell me something that i dont already know? Anyone come across this before? Looks like i gotta try for a wrecker!

Yea mate your lock has had it.
My advise would be to change it before it may fail completely. Makes replacement harder :p.
Honestly IMO go to a dealer and buy a genuine lock unit. There is a superseded part and a wrecker sourced one may already be fatigued

Ended up getting a used part from a wrecker up here for $75 plus $15 to have it delivered to my work which is better than $297 which is what I got quoted from VW dealer. I can make a bit of a how to if it is needed. Will try and install on the weekend

Yea definitely alot cheaper. Just be careful as there is no guarantee that the old lock will last that long

Did you check the wiring loom from the door pillar to the door near the hinges? I had similar problems in a mk5 golf and it was a broken wire inside the rubber boot from the door being opened and closed many times over the years. Easy fix by splicing a new piece of wire with 2 cold solder joints. VCDS was showing an intermittent "implausable signal" error. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the heads up. Had a few dramas getting the lock in but the replacement one worked fine, then played up for a couple of days, now working. Go figure. Will monitor it though. Might give the rubber boot a play around with and see if that affects it.
