  • New GT TDI - Happy AS!

Hey boys & girls.. well after 4 months finally got the little beast last Monday (10th March) GT TDI Sunroof, Xenons, DSG, Blue Graphite. And after one week... HOLY COW!!! Am mightly impressed.. the lil beast has just over 2300km's on it (relax folks its a work car as I travel around the state quite a bit) but I have never driven such a comfortable car. Now those who were at the meet last friday night in sydney may have noticed that I aint a small guy and it feels very comfy to drive esp on long trips, and dont get me started on the performance.. I could write all night about it, not to mention the economy thats just starting to kick in on its 3rd tankful today - the MFD was telling me I had 980km to go after I filled it up today!!! For those waiting IT'S WORTH IT!!! and forget all the hassles etc you have or are about to go thru in getting it, it all comes good in the end.

I can honestly say nothing about the car has disappointed and nothing has shown itself to be a negative as yet. DSG - fantastic (though it's still learning) Cruise control - best I've ever used - then again the torque helps! Handling - try 110km\h around 55km\h corners on the Putty Rd. Engine - if you drive one you know what I mean Am still learning and getting completely comfortable with the car but DANG!!!!

Anyways folks that's my 2 cents worth. Great car and I'm glad I bought it. Was good to put some names to faces last Friday and I plan on going to future cruises, get togethers etc..

    Till next time.. Ciao

Great to hear you're enjoying the car mate, because if you weren't there would be something wrong with you! They are brilliant machines - I mean how many other cars offer genuine grunt and can still use less than 6.0l/100km? I still smile every time I drive mine, and I don't expect that the novelty will wear off any time soon either.

I completely agree about the comfort factor too. Although they are noisy beasts at idle, I reckon they are quieter than most petrol cars at hwy cruising speeds, and oh so refined. The only negative I have found (apart from the tractor soundtrack at idle) is a few annoying rattles around the cabin. Strangely enough they seemed to coincide with the fitting of firmer suspension.... funny that...

Oh, and if you reckon it handles well now, put some Koni FSD's and aftermarket springs on it, then you'll experience handling

Oh, I just remembered another negative, well for us DSG owners anyway. The DSG box is apparently only rated at 380nm, so we can't chip our cars to 430 nm like the manual GT TDI owners. Still, it's a small price to pay for having such a great gear box.

Hey congrats, and yep, I know all too well the fun you are having!

I'm only at 1700kms, but had a very very fun day of driving today. Had to do a few hundred k's today, and I was in a play mood. Never had so many drags in one day, and the highlights have been leaving the XR6 ute at the lights this arvo, he wasn't happy, and a couple of young punks in a late model commie tonight, creamed them from a standing start too, can you believe it?
I've got my diesel sticker on now, so that should REALLY hurt!

And the best thing is the average from today, under 6L with frequent traffic light derbys!

I can only imagine how good the DSG is for launching, I'm still to get the first gear thing down pat in the manual, and I'm beating these guys lagging in 1st!

All said driving done on closed private roads under adult supervision, a good 30 mins after eating.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Rub it in, youve all got your GT TDI.
I really cant wait to get mine, its killing me now the closer it gets.

My boat arrived on Monday and the car was unloaded so its here in the country.
Now i just have to wait for it to be delivered to the dealer and get it from them.
Ive been told 2 weeks for it to get to the dealer then they'll need it for about another 3 days.

        HURRY THE F@#% UP.!!!!!!!

Interesting comment about the Koni FSD's and aftermarket springs.
I was about to purchase the Neuspeed Pro cup kit from Ian but being away last week gave me time to think (too much) do i really need to upgrade the suspension.??
After reading your comment on it i think i will now just bite the bullet and order them today.
But is it really that much better.??

Well guys, enjoy your cars and thanks for all the positive reports youre just making the wait so much easier, NOT.!!
        I'll be joining you soon.
        See you on the road.!!!!

Well if like me, your eyes light up whenever you see a corner, it is definitely worth it. I live in the Perth hills and I am surrounded by fantastic driving roads, and I like to drive in, shall we say, a 'spirited manner' at times, so the extra balance, poise and grip provided by the suspension upgrade makes it worthwhile for me.

It's not that the car is now capable of tackling the corners at twice the speed, in fact, the actual speed difference is probably quite minimal. It's the way the car feels when you're tackling the corners. The best way to put the difference into perspective is to imagine driving at 8/10ths on a tight bit of road.

With the stock suspension, your knuckles are white and the adrenaline is pumping, but with the FSD's and springs, you could drive at the same pace, with only one hand on the wheel, and you're heart rate wouldn't even rise. Basically, the car feels very assured, and the tyres would let go long before the suspension was found wanting (and I'm only guessing of course ).

Couldnt agree more. Us aussies get ripped off on almost everything.
I didnt want to go for a full coil over setup so i have decided and just ordered the Neuspeed pro cup kit from Ian.

Sure its a couple of hundred dollars more expensive than if i had imported myself from the USA but in the end i couldnt be bothered.
I guess that could be what guys like Ian rely on, our lazyness.!!

Anyhow i should get them tomorrow so theres something else to add to the collection of things i have ready for my new car.

Yep, im happy as too, done about 3500km now, running average is about 7.2l/100 as i do a lot of shorter trips and city driving.

Only thing i have noticed is that the drivers seat is starting to show some fairly major signs of wear already. anyone else seen this?

I just tend to use a different seat each time I get down with my girl in the VW. Evens out the wear.

Well havent noticed any wearing at all of anything really.. but seeing as how my big ole butt is in the drivers seat for a large part of the day then this should present itself fairly quickly I should imagine.. Will keep any interested parties updated.

At least yours is in sight, my estimated delivery date of the 5th of May has blown out by a month!

The worst part is that my car has to be traded in early April so I'm hoping for a loaner from the dealer.

How long did yours take from the time it left the factory (exit product plant) to when it arrived?

Mine leaves the production plant on the 16th of April, arrives at the port on the 17th, departs the port on the 29th, arrives in Brisbane on the 23rd of May and arrives (I assume this at VW for the compliance plate etc) on the 26th of May and with a blank ETA on departure for dealer.

This wait is killing me, I expected May the 5th at the latest.

To top it off my car I'm trading has never missed a beat in 5 years, on Sunday a 25km drive to my Mothers place and 400m from there the idler pulley siezed and snapped the serpentine belt. One tow to the dealer ($75) + $440 in parts later I get my car back. Damn thing only had to hold on for another 3 weeks!

Got to experience public transport for the first time in ~6 years (and it's worse then ever) so I'm not looking forward to being without a car for any period of time. Guess I'll appreciate the golf that much more when it arrives

Mine was Leave plant 8 Feb, Arrive at dispatch port 11 Feb, Arrive Melbourne port 13 March.
The arrive at Melb port then changed and the ship wasnt in till 17 March.

I only hope they havent stuffed anything up with the order or anything.
Fingers crossed i should have it in 1st week of April but the dealer hasnt contacted me yet.

While were on this topic does anyone know how far the tracking site goes.
Does it show when its been delivered to dealer or does the tracking end with the car being unloaded off the boat. Mine was unloaded on the 18th

The site I went to only looks at what happens on the ship. From there I was in the hands of my dealer. They stated to me that the cars get offloaded (I think mine was in Melboure) and then pooled for compliance plating and then have to wait for transport to the dealership. From there the dealer then has problems trying to prep all the cars they have just got for delivery to the end user. Mine took an extra two weeks even though it was at the dealers!

This however may not be the truth of it .. just what I was told.
