Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Bluetooth Woes

    Howdi Guys,

Am having issues with my Bluetooth. Apart from that the car has been flawless. *touch wood*

Was wondering if any others get this ****ty performance from the OEM bluetooth.

When the car is stationary, the performance of the unit isn't too bad. The caller can hear me clearly and I can hear them fairly clearly. As soon as the car gets moving, the caller on the other side of the line hears an echo, regardless of my phone and head unit's volume setting.

Have had this looked at twice by VW with no luck. South Yarra VW are going to replace the entire Bluetooth unit to see if that makes any difference. They also mentioned that Parrot is no longer the OEM supplied unit. Apparently they use a new brand. Not too sure which one though.

Part is on order, will update you guys if I have any luck. Hopefully its only a dodgy unit as I can't imagine the current performance would be considered "acceptable".

Parrot is not, and as far as i know, was never OEM.
Some dealers may pass it off as OEM but its not truley a VW OEM Bluetooth.
OEM Bluetooth is a module that usually sits under the drivers seat.
I have heard of dealers using the parrot and also a Motorola unit and calling it OEM.

Tell the dealer you want the proper VW OEM bluetooth not one manufactured by a 3rd party.
The OEM mic is also a small square mic that clips into a specifically designed location in the sunglasses holder assembly so if you have a small round, usual type of mic sitting somewhere then this alone tells me that its not true VW OEM

Sorry i cant offer any help to your problem though other that the HU volume which youve already tried.

        Thanks mate.

I have the microphone wired to the inside lining of the front A-pillar. Ridiculous position if you ask me considering its close proximity to the drivers side window.

Hopefully a full replacement (which is what they are doing - currently on order) will do the trick. Apparently (what I was told by South Yarra VW) VW have made changes to the process for bluetooth replacement warranty claims. Now the dealerships have to send in the faulty unit in order to have another unit sent out.....Sounds like BS to me but hopefully it will all be working again soon.

Sounds like I'm the only one having issues with it so thats a good sign Iguess!

Hmmm, i got my R32 from the same dealership, (picked it up last November). It was fitted with a parrot somethingorother, with a mic mounted right in front of the instrument cluster on the dash. When i bought the car (back in June 07) the salesman described it as having a mic on the dash, so I wonder if you got a unit that is different to the standard issue?? Mine works well BTW.

            Thanks for the reply mate.

I actually bought mine at Essendon Volkswagen (lease company bought from there) but work on St Kilda Rd so much easier to take it into South Yarra VW.

Glad to hear that your Bluetooth works well. My biggest fear was that VW assumed that customers would settle for sub-standard bluetooth. Thats great news that yours works so well. Woohoo!

Will give an update when they change over my system. (I was told by TheCarKit Company that they install (or used to) Parrot Bluetooth systems)

what phone are you using with the bluetooth unit?
reason i ask is that when i use my bluetooth with my sony ericson it works a dream. soon as i switch the bluetooth over to my nokia work phone (i have two phones 1 for work and my personal)i get constant complaints from everyone i talk to saying it echoes like crazy.

what i have found is that you need to hide the phone that has the echo as its mike is picking you up aswell as the the bluetooth mic

              hope that makes sense........

This also tells me its NOT a 3rd party Bluetooth.
If it was a original, proper OEM bluetooth then VW would be able to just change it over.
They are feeding you complete BS, of course a 3rd party supplier is going to want the faulty unit back before supplying a replacement.

If they have sold this to you as OEM then you have a strong case against them as its not OEM.
I would contact VW Australia if the dealer doesnt resolve this with the proper OEM VW device.

                  Hi All,
I had a Parrot system fitted to my Jetta 2 months ago when I picked it up from the dealer. I had a Samsung phone which I thought worked well with the Bluetooth unit. The people on the other end kept saying "are you in the washroom coz we can hear an echo" I also found myself leaning really forward to speak into the microphone which was mounted on the dash infront of the instrument cluster.

After a week I went back to my dealer showed them the issue. connected 3-4 phones in the service area and they were convinced there was a problem. they swapped the whole unit out for me in less than an hour while I enjoyed a coffee out of the rain

The replacement unit was not a Parrot and it now works brilliantly with my new nokia E51. Even back seat passengers can talk through the hands free kit and there are no issues.

Your VW dealer is pulling porkies I think.

PM me if you need further info re the bluetooth kit.

                  Cheers
                  TOm

Thanks for the replies guys. Will give you guys an update once I have it repaired. Seems as though I have the exact same problem as Thomas had in his Jetta.

                    PM Sent.
