  • Check Oil Level light on

My GTI is only 4200km, and yesterday morning while starting the car, the "Check Oil Level" warning light on, and keep flashing up on the MFD every now and then, I bloody took it to VW barloworld Mascot this morning, service manager is very nice, just ask and check if i bought the car from them, and then ask a machanic to top it up for me for free, thumbs up with this kind of service.

But can any one guide me if this warning will comes up again ??? should i stock up some oil myself and do it next time instead? Is Castrol Edge or whatever suitable for my GTI ???

There are a few threads on which oil people do use.

The dealer will sell you the oil they use for servicing the cars. This will ensure that you are getting the right oil for your car and paying the maximum

Check the oil regularly and top it up if need be. One thing you definitely don't want to do is overfill the car.

Our GTI had very little oil remaining when I dropped it at 7½K - probably a bit over a litre! Didn't see the low level warning kick in however. Anyways, uses very little if any oil these days (just clocked over 20K, servicing every 7½K).

What?! Your lucky that you had any engine left, if that's the case! It's about 500ml from the max to the min mark on the dipstick. Given that it holds over 4 litres, you should have had a warning lamp near the bottom of the dipstick and, I suspect, the "stop immediately, I'm out of oil" alarm well and truely by then.
