Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Comfortline to Jetta/GTI front conversion

Hi all, just wondering if anyone out there has succesfuly replaced the original Comfortline front with one off a Jetta or GTI? Would love to do this to mine if possible.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

Yes this is possible. I've done it for a customer on a Jetta TFSI for a GTI front. Was around about $1000 worth of parts plus painting + Fitting, which you could do yourself....LVD

That's what I'm thinking too but want to be double sure before I start handing out the folding stuff..

Have been doing a bit of trawling on web and came across this R32 front. Am guessing freight cost would be a killer though

            LowVeeDub..

Are any modifications required or is it as simple as take off Comfortline front and bolt on new front?

Forgot to mention to all in my first post that I'm a newbie here and look forward to sharing ideas and info on our great MK5/Jetta's.

I'm hearing you! I tried pricing a Jetta front bumper from the local dealer over the phone but the useless sod on the phone refused to tell me anything unless I had a VIN number as he claimed there were so many different versions of 2006 models, WTF?

No its not that simple, you need the support behind the bar as well from memory. The parts you would get from VW Australia/or me for that matter have all the necessary bits and bobs to fit it.. It was a while ago now i'd need to speak to my parts dept. to find the exact cost for you. PM me on monday if you like and i'll get you the info.

next time you get that answer tell them to walk over to their showroom and take the VIN off the display car.

But yeah the parts program is hard to look things up without a VIN

Looks like customer service is as bad here as it was in Townsville (just moved to Sydney)

id bet money that all the bars on all the mk5 are identical. although knowing vw they might still have given them different part numbers.
