MK5 GTI - Dead ECU

    Success! Went into VW this morning, got a call this afternoon that my second hand ECU had coded fine. They couldn't really tell me what they did/the process, but was $165.

    So:
    Initial diagnosis/testing: $200
    ECU: $350
    Tow: $80
    Coding: $165

    Total: $795. Not the cheapest exercise, but still better than $3k. Now to try work out how the drainage works and how it got so much water in there.

        do yourself a BIG favour and replace temp sensor as these fail and allow coolant tp capillarize up the wiring harness into the ECU. If you have coolant in the ecu[taste test] you will also need to replace the wiring harness in the engine bay...done a few like this recently. cheers steve

          ^ Yep.

          Beetles and Golf 4s would do it into the dash cluster via the level sensor in the expansion bottle.

              Had them both replaced a little while ago (12 months or so) after something else was throwing up incorrect fault codes. It's definitely water in the old ECU (happened straight after it was washed).
