  • More advice needed....

Being ****ed around by my dealer. I went through a fleet company, and while helpful, they have not been able to get anymore info out of them than I can, nor can my finance company, who they fob off and promise to call back (but never do). They won't tell me or my finance company my VIN or chassis number as 'they can't until it arrives at the dealer, so they can confirm it's correct'. As a result I cannot complete my paper work for finance or insurance.

I am being told every week, the car will be here, only for no phone calls and no car to arrive. I paid the fleet company the money I owed them (less than $200 bucks, so will write that money off). Given I have not paid a deposit (provided credit card details but they never actually put it through) or signed anything, am I entitled to get my car from another dealer? I have found a very helpful dealer/salesman who, shock/horror, actually return phone calls and want to help with questions I have (such as organizing a Pioneer AVIC HD3 to be installed). My fleet rep claims 'the paper work has been done' but the only paper work, was responding to an email that had a quote, saying yes, I would buy the car. Nothing has been signed.

    All help appreciated.

I had this same drama when I was looking for my car...As long as you havn't signed anything, then legally, you have no obligation to go though the dealer that is screwing you around. They may stamp their feet and hold their breath, but they have no legal grounds to do anything about it. Consult consumer affairs in your state(as I did, and be completely honest about it. Provide details about who you spoke with, and keep a record of conversation), and just clarify it, but when I was doing my thing, it all got resolved.

I'd ask the other dealer how to get around it. They'll tell you but double check their info before you act upon it.

Doesn't make sense (and am feeling for you)

I had my VIN number as soon as my car was on the production line.

They are telling you porkies (which am sure you are aware of)

          Sucks.

            Thanks Baily.

Spoke to NSW Office of Fair Trading, and according to them, they do not have to provide a VIN until the car arrives at the dealer if they don't want to but, and here is the kicker, no paper work can be signed without the VIN and without signed paper work, I don't have to continue with the purchase of the car. An email to a fleet company to say 'go ahead' is not considered a signed deal to purchase the car.

Just waiting for someone to actually answer my call to tell em there is no way I am going through with the sale and will be straight on to the dealer who knows what they are doing (Barlow World) to organise the car.

Perhaps a well thought out, polite but assertive letter to the general manager of VW australia would work in your favour. If I were him / her and heard of your story, well, I'd want to sweeten the deal / find a suitable car quicker for you. Can't hurt, and in the least may get that dealer looked at from above to save the next poor b@stard behind you!

                Excellent to hear that!

Hope it all works out. You're going to love that car when it finally arrives!

Just out of interest.....When did you order the car? I ordered mine in mid-August and took delivery 3rd week of January 2008.

Are you far off that timing?

Well, what a day. My dealer came to the party and the car will be delivered Friday afternoon! Only problem is I then have to get back to Homebush for the big clash against the Rorters Anyway I am sooo bloody relieved.

I have also placed an order to get a Pioneer AVIC HD3 installed. Thanks for your insightful thread Geoffp, I knew exactly what I needed to get

...and rest assured, they won't forget about the deposit. I thought I had managed to get away with it, as they didn't charge my credit card until I picked the car up.

hmmm might get that moved back on the loan as i need to load the credit card up on the AVIC before the check from the dealer arrives to cover it.

Man, I am so excited. Can't wait to upload some photos on Sat to show her off

had a similar prob with my dealer who wouldn't tell me any details about the car... became a pita as i only got the rego, VIN and engine number the morning i was supposed to pick the car up.. just meant lots of rushing around in the morning ringing the finance people then the insurance and all that so that i could actually pick up the car...
seems noone can do anything without the numbers etc but it seems a vicious circle... dealer wont tell you the numbers without the finance release of money.. insurance wont insure without the numbers.. finance wont release the money without the insurance policy number and reciept etc... AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! !
And the fact i went through a leasing company didn't make it any easier either.... gave them a mouthful about not helping out chasing up info i wanted as i thought this is what i was paying them for.
just another eye opener for the next car i purchase.

I went via Barloworld and the process was extremely smooth.

Had the VIN upon purchase. They rego'd it the next day. I called the insurance company and had it insured. Then confirmed that for the finance.

                          Easy as.
