Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rear globes keep failing.

    Hey fellow dubbers

I have an interesting phenomenon with my TDI.
We've had it since dec 2005 and it seems to have an appetite for rear globes. I have replaced numerous brake, and rear parking globes since purchasing the vehicle. I use the same globes for all the other cars in the family and it seems as though I might replace globes in the others maybe every 12-18 months but about every 6 months in the golf. Now the LHS brake light has gone. The hassle i'm worried about are the clips the bulb carrier clips into. They are tight to bend.

Anybody out there noticed the same problem?

Yep ive replaced 4 in my LHS brake light.....although hasnt done it for about a year now....

Those clips are very tight aren't they...but they are pretty tough plastic from what i remember.

What brand of globes are you using?
Not all globes are made equally

Yeah that's what i figured - Narva (1/2 way reasonable) but what i'm really interested in is the replacement frequency using the same globes between the Golf and other makes!
