Mate, that is a really smart move. Kudos to you.
Save your money for a bit & when the time comes you'll be able to get a really good car, do any mods that you might like & afford the insurance. (It's amazing how many people drive without insurance). Do some defensive/advanced driving courses as well - great fun & you learn to get the most out of your car.
I had a Mk3.5 cabrio & it was a bucket of fun.
