  • MK5 Jetta - Emissions Garage ?!?! EGR ?

    Hi Guys

My 2006 MK5 Jetta TDI threw up this at me last night. Emissions Garage with the CEL on.

After looking into it seems like its a EGR issue, stuck flap etc.

I can see there is a lot on it but basically I don't want to read through multiple pages and hopefully someone can give me a direct and quick answer on how to fix it.

    My car has 170,000kms

Can it be removed and cleaned?
Do I need a new one?
Would a second hand one suffice?
Do I need to take it to a specialist?

Am pretty mechanically minded so removing it wouldn't be an issue.

Any help advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks Brad

Can be cleaned (irritating job but not overly difficult)

Could need a replacement if the flap isn't just blocked by the build up of soot and grime (extremely common build up)

You want need to take it to a specialist.

The problem will most likely be that the build up has just blocked the flap from moving freely, so simply remove, clean the a bare finish (as detailed as possible, will take a while but just keep at it with rags, toothbrush or form small brush and carby/inlet cleaner)

Then clear the code with a vagcom cable (if you don't have one someone will help you out for a few beers usually. If you in Melbourne I don't mind clearing it for you.)

Then if the problem is still there the flap must be f***ed I'd say...

Plus it usually blows the fuse in the fuse box by the battery when the flap blocks.
If it's very blocked, it buggers the plastic gear that controls the flap.
