I'm pleased you said that. I bought a rear scuff plate and it's coming off already. I thought I'd done something wrong. I'll pull it off and replace it with something decent. I used white spirit to clean the area - is that okay?

White spirit is much the same as turpentine and that's what I always use for preparing surfaces just make sure you thoroughly clean all the old adhesive off the scuff plate and the other surface as well before putting on the new tape. I have found that the 3M brand tape is usually very good quality and fairly well priced too.

I'd send them back, IMHO they cheapen the Golf and they look hideous, that rubber trim around the outside edge just looks so cheap and nasty as does the golf lettering. There are much nicer ones out there that fit properly and for around the same dollars.

Also take a look at places like oempl.us and parts4euro.com as they sell this sort of accessory (will be more expensive but will fit properly).

I bought some stainless steel ones of ebay too.
I hope they fit properly and dont look ****.

All I bought was some clear film from supercheap which you put on your front lights and bonnet to protect from stone chips.

I used clear contact for books for my Rodeo back in 1991 and the sills still look
like new.

They must be made of GOLD for that price Maris. Have a look at the one's Logzy has, try this - http://global.ebay.com/VW_GOLF_5_MK5...078765705/item They certainly look a lot better than the one's I have just returned for a refund. I am going to order a set of these soon and once fitted I will post a couple of pics. No doubt the OEM sill plates will fit like a glove but IMHO $450 is over the top.

Which is why I haven't bought them yet ($450).

I will see what price I can get (Iknow I can get them cheaper). I am hoping VWA is having a fire sale on accessories as they make room for the MK VI.
