  • My car arrived - well almost!

After all the waiting and anticipation i went to pick-up my car and that's where it turned to sh*t.

My order was pretty simple (at least i thought so) -

Golf - Yip they got that correct
GTI - Yip they got that correct
3 Door - Yip they got that correct
Black - Yip they got that correct
Manual - Yip they got that correct

    Options:
Pearl paint - Yip they got that correct
Sunroof - Yip they got that correct
Sat Nav RNS 510 - Got this by pure luck (need to learn German to operate it)
Latte Leather - OOPS got anthracite instead

Now my issue is i have waited over 4 months and it's WRONG - do i wait another 4 months for that car i actually ordered or do I compromise and take anthracite leather?

Dealer very apologetic but wouldn't swap for R32 (hey - worth a go!)

I have walked away to cool down have a bottle of wine and make a decision tomorrow - looking for some input here folks!

Depends if you like it with the grey leather or not. You're the one who has to live with it for the next few years! (Personally I don't think the grey leather matches the grey plastics in the car - which is why I didn't get leather.)

And I thought waiting an extra two weeks was harsh .. bad luck mate!

In any case I would wait .. if I had to .. but you shouldn't have too. There must be something already on a ship that hasn't been sold .. surely!

Dealer is going to see what's on the boat heading to OZ and what's available in country early tomorrow morning - should have an update by lunchtime. Not confident as it's a pretty unusual spec - particularly the RNS 510 which is the first the dealer has ever seen one!

Ultimately it's my choice if i accept the stuff up and i know i'll be accepting a top car and I’ll love it BUT that’s not the point - I’m sure every day i sit in that car and look at the leather there will be a part of me that says VW bas*ards

I know this sounds trivial - but all i want is what i ordered.

Completely understand. Same thing happened when I ordered my Alfa 147. I took the car with a light grey leather interior (ugh) and got the sport seats that I had ordered swapped in when the next batch of cars arrived a month later. Had that new car smell for a long time

Yep, I like rabbit's idea. Take the car and a written promise to have the correct seats put in as soon as they arrive. Win Win.

Given the latte leather is usually a special order you'd think they'd get it right.

I'm not sure how much you want the latte colour but one advantage of the anthracite would be better resell value. The anthracite leather is more pupular and no matter how much you take care of it the latte leather will age quicker.
But you ordered latte so they should be giving you what you're after...

I personally think that black leather in the QLD sun will age much quicker than Latte and to be honest was one of the reasons for selecting Latte.

I have owned a car with black leather and had many a scorched arse in summer. I also run a Land cruiser Sahara with light coloured leather and its standing up to the QLD sun very well - and no scorched arse!

I also think the Latte is something different and should stand out from the crowd, but it's a colour you either love or hate so point taken re: re-sale value.

                    Oh decisions decisions!!

Another possibility is to get the dealer to get a (good) upholsterer to change all the seats and trim to the leather in the colour you ordered (and paid for).

A bit more mucking about and waiting, but not as long as waiting for a new car to be ordered and built.

I'd also press them for a copy of the original order to see where the mistake was made, and my money is on it being screwed up in the dealership, not at the factory.

After all the recent errors being made in VAG orders, I insisted on getting a copy of the original order for my new-un, and I checked the colour and options very carefully. I've noted the COMM number, and will match that up with my VIN when I get that (hopefully soon).

I suppose we have to bear in mind that to us a new car is a very special purchase that we only make every year or two at most, but for the dealers it is just another new car, one of dozens each month. Still a bugger when it happens, though

The dealer actually showed us the process of ordering the leather and the mistake was inventible. Can you believe they only have one order code - no separate code for either anthracite or latte.

The dealer has now made a couple of comments that scare me - he actually didn't know you could get the leather in 2 colours, and also had no idea what an RNS 510 was.

My first impressions of VW are not good. (Have they heard of product training for their staff?)

Another thing that is bizarre - The new RNS 510 is only available in German with no maps! You have to wait until VW send you the up to date maps -this can take approx 2 weeks!

I forgot to mention this - there is slight damage to the front windscreen seal (looks like it has been scratched) - dealer will replace no probs but I’m thinking the front windscreen will have to be popped to change - not really what i want for a brand new car - I’m i being paranoid?

Wouldn't it be easier for them to swap the RNS510 into another car with Latte leather rather than the other way around?

But what a stupid ****up, complain to VW Aus!!

If there is a "similar" car somewhere in OZ that dealer can get his hands on with latte etc... and old sat nav - he has agreed to swap with RNS 510.

I will find out at lunchtime today

Don't you worry VW head office is getting a call today!

I doubt this but i am only guessinig.
If it is the case then i would think that alot more people would get the wrong color leather.
Plus if there is only one code then obviously the color needs to be added to the order next to the code somehow and the dealer should know this.
I believe it's a dealer stuff up and there just trying to shift the blame by baffeling you with BS and not telling the whole truth.

Call VW Australia and ask them the question.
