Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Replacing GTI HID Globes

    Hello!
Was having a funny problem where my drivers side headlight would go out intermittently, and would trip the error on the MFD, then come on next time I started up the car. Thought I might swap over the globes, and see if that was what was causing the issue.

Went to take out the first one (passenger side), following steps I found online, and instead of coming out in three pieces - black and red box, black ring, globe, it came out all in one piece. Seems jammed, and just will not come apart. I have a funny feeling someone in the past has put it together wrong, and it wasn't actually sitting in the headlight correctly. Note, it's also sitting skewed.

Have attached a photo. Any ideas what is jamming it?

Ignore that! Got it apart now. Just to wait and see if the error code moves to the other side
