I've been shopping around for the 15K service for my GTI and have got the following quotes so far:

    1. Volkspower - $250-$300 using Fuchs Synthetic engine oil
    2. Burwin Volkswagen - $310 using mineral oil
    3. Essendon Volkswagen - $389.30
    4. Barlo - $360

I bought my car from Burwin so I think I'll be going back there for the service since their price is reasonable and the service has been good so far.

Should have mentioned that I had a loan car (Bora V5) for the day as well.

Where did you have car serviced Spoddy? Is it a good dealership/service centre?
Nepean Motor Group VW at Penrith. They were very good and delivered on their promise, something the selling dealer in Parramatta failed miserably ...
A great bunch of people - I've bought two cars from them over a 12 year period and would have bought this one but for the fact there were no more of the spec we were after in the drive away price deal that was going.

            Very unexpected.
Is this a normal thing VW dealerships do - this was my first service with a dub. As a side note, when I had my Audi I got squat when the car was serviced.
Bought my car from Barlo so I went back to them for the service. I think it cost me about $370 as well, I also got the same gift set but they didn't detail my car on the inside, they did give it a decent wash on the outside though.

As a plus, they also gave me a 15% discount card for any future services I do at Barlo or parts purchased through them.

[QUOTE=geoffp;136095]Picked up my car after the service - was given a very nice gift for getting the car serviced at the Barloworld dealership (Springvale Road).

Trust me ,you paid many times over for your gift.
I had my first service almost 3 years ago & at that time around $350.
I was told it would take around 2.5 hrs.[ to justify the price I believe]
I hung around & watched the oil change & it took at most 45 minutes.
When I bought the car it included 3 free services so I didn't say anything, but if I had to pay I would have been very vocal.
These prices are a RIP OFF. A friend has just purchased a new Corolla & Toyota have capped the service cost at $120. Yes I know the oil cost more but not that much.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

I remember Daewoo cars were sold with 3 years free servicing - Daewoo is out of business in OZ now.
There is actually a lot of difference in oil price than you think.
Serviced capped at $120.00 - hmm, good luck to Toyota owners with that.
I see many cars with thick sludge build up (visible when you unscrew oil filler cap) at 60,000km I wonder if that's a side effect of cheaper servicing.

wowzers it's $270 in QLD. There is also a guy on the gold coast who does mobile services at your home, does tyre rotations and the whole shibam and it does not void warranty. Friend had it done the other week, paid cash and was $160. I don't think it's rocket science, just change the fludis, adjust the clutch and rotate the tyres, etc. About 1.5 hrs max

That's pretty close to the retail price for that type & brand of oil.
It is expensive to buy in relatively small quantities although the dealer would probably buy it in bulk so there’s obviously some profit being made there.

Interesting about the fixed price Toyota servicing.
Considering a number of Toyota engines are prone to sludge at the best of times, I wonder what will happen when they start cutting costs in order to keep their profit margins up.
I had a Corolla before the Golf and never left the dealership without a bill for at least $280 for a minor service. That was from Cannon Toyota in Heidelberg, Vic.
