  • Hand over this week

Well after 4 months of waiting my GTI has arrived and will be ready for hand over on Thursday.

I'm very suspicious that sat nav RNS 510 that was ordered is not actually fitted i.e. every time i ask i get a very vague response.

Apart from the obvious scratches/dents etc... what else should i look for at hand over?

    Cheers

    Hi Gordon,

    Congratulations!

I got my new toy last Thursday.

I'd have to say handover was faultless, but I had a perfect dealer experience.
The car has a few minor rattles, but nothing I can't fix / live with.

Make sure you take it up Nebo Glorious or some similar mountain, it's a HOOT.
Great way to run the thing in too.

    Enjoy!

I've read about people getting hampers and floor mats - are these something that you get as standard or do you need to ask?

LOL! "please would you give me a present" cant hurt to ask i suppose but nar seriously they will give you something since they want good feedback from you in the survey you'll get sent. floor mats are also standard on a gti.

one thing ppl overlook when taking delivery of a car is the tyres! check for bulges in the sidewall and scratches on the wheels. also check the entire interior as well as exterior for stains and/or scratches. and dont forget to make sure the bottle opener is in the centre console. congrats!

You should try and get a few goodies thrown in. A metal bottle opener (the partition between the cup holders-MY08 have cheap plastic ones), GTI keyring, warning triangle, first aid kit etc. Might seem like nothing but would be a cool way to complete the car...

When I got my GTI the dealer didnt give me anything..he was like...

"You do realise how lucky you are to have got one of these dont you?"

            and i was like....

"Yes Sir, now can i please have the keys!"

But that was when there was none available and you had to win a race around the world wearing a monkey suit to actually get one.

Congrats man, a long time coming hey, You'll love the new Sat Nav no matter where it was installed. At our dealership we do give gifts but it does vary depending on the realtionship you've had along the way. If its been a good one then we give hats, keyrings, umbrellas, t-shirts, jumpers, the new vw cuff links are cool too. As to the metal bottle opener they no longer produce them. So plastic is the way of the future my friend. It does have a metal opening grip though. Its not all bad. If the customer has been nothnig but drama then he gets his standard mats and thats it. It pays to be nice sometimes when most sales people deal with arse holes all day who think we are going to steal their children or something. Enjoy the car man.... You will love every minute of it.

I got a first aid kit and a cool keyring. There was no bottle opener in the car, so i went to spare parts and they gave me a metal one (my car is 0. I thought that was pretty reasonable!

I'm almost 100% sure I’ll get sweet FA as I’ve asked (and asked again) for clarification on RNS 510 being fitted (or not).

Hypothetical scenario - during hand over I find the RNS 510 is not fitted - what should I do?

Forget about it and order one off the internet for $1500 instead. Takes 30mins at most to install. Think of it as a blessing in disguise.

Unfortunately I’ve forked out $3K already.

Personally i think $3K is allot of money for sat nav - but i'm willing to pay it for the RNS 510 as i think it's the dogs bo**ocks and worth it.

My issue is I don't rate the old sat nav as being worth $3K (how much is a Tom Tom/Garmin…mmm) if I find out it’s installed.

The old one was $3K, which included a 6 stacker CD. The RNS510 is $2490 plus another $790 for the 6 stacker.

If you get the RNS510 and the stacker for that price you did well. If you only get the RNS510 you were ripped off.
