Hey Rob, are you getting the Gti rear bumper as well, and if so, are you having the car colour-coded? Colour-coded Gti rear bumpers look fantastic I reckon, and from memory it was only around the $300 (excluding painting) mark too.[/QUOTE]
Yes I have got one - am rubbing it down at the moment, slow process, getting it ready to paint. Hopefully will look good when it is done.

Rob, whats the difference between Sports pack ones and the GTI ones?
Anyone got a pic to show the difference?
I'm looking at at dressing my Golf up a bit and considering the side skirts and new bumper lip or going the whole hog and putting on a new Jetta/GT front
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....
tdesel the sport pack are the ones out of the Golf options list and they want around the $900 mark unpainted, the GTI ones are genuine GTi golf parts and are about $300 unpainted. So I dont think they would be selling to many of the sports pack option ones
Rob
Thanks for the clarification. I was also quoted around $900 for the GTI skirts by the Townsville dealer which I thought was ridiculously steep for 2 lengths of moulded plastic.
I'm guessing these are pretty easy to fit?

I can't remember which thread it was in or who asked me, but the question related to whether or not the Gti rear bumper was a direct fit onto the GT Sport. Well I've finally remembered to have a look, and although the bumper itself matches up perfectly with the body panels (as you'd expect), it doesn't match up exactly with the wheel arch lining.
The Gti bumper is wider at the bottom, and the holes at the base of the bumper and wheel arch lining do not align, meaning that the screw cannot be fitted. It's not a deal breaker (it's taken me over a month to even notice!) and the bumper still feels quite secure, but I just thought I'd clarify the matter.
Your GT looks really nice with the colour coding - cute plate, too!
BTW, did you need to do any mods to the rear wheel arch liners? I heard that the GTI uses a different liner - you can get away with the GT liner, but the last 2 screw holes don't line up?
Also with regards to the skirts, apparently the R32 part is untextured and comes pre primed.

The VW paint shop fitted the rear bumper and side skirts, so I can't say for sure if they had to do any modifications, although it doesn't look like it. And yes, it's only the bottom screw holes that don't line up.
Hmmm, I wish I'd known that about the R32 side skirts, I could have avoided all the dramas with the VW dealership regarding their failure to put a smooth finish on mine. Still, I'd imagine that there is a price difference between the two.
I tell you what I would like off the R32 - the rear bumper - it looks sensational! Although, you would have to do some exhaust mods.... Come to think of it, I want the R32 front end, the wheels, and the interior....Damn it, why didn't VW spare me all the hassle, and just make a high performance diesel Golf that looks like the R32?!!

Im confused why you would bother changing the rear of the GT to a GTi rear - the difference between the two is so subtle and this is where most of your money went to. Dont you think you would have been better off spending that cash just getting a R32 rear straight away? Sure you need to change the exhaust but its not that complicated or expensive- you would only need to get someone to re-rout the pipes to the centre.

At first glance, it may appear that the difference is subtle, but there is one crucial difference between the two. The GT Sport rear bumper is one piece and cannot be colour coded in two sections (well it could, but it would look rubbish), whereas the Gti is two piece which means the top section can be painted and the lower portion left black (and it looks great done in this way).
I would have loved an R32 rear bumper, but in all honesty I thought it may have been a bit OTT for a diesel. Moreover, the price difference between the two would be significant. Price up an R32 rear bumper against a Gti version. I think you'll find it is at least double the price. As a guide, I paid just under $300 for the Gti rear bumper.
There has also been a resolution regarding the failure to put a smooth finish on the body kit. The Dealership has offered to reduce the price of fitting and painting to half price, and do me some mats at cost price, which I have gladly accepted.

I think you'll find the price is more than double ( if you claim you only paid $300 ) but I think well worth it for the dynamic visual difference over the standard GT bar- this is something I intend to do to my GT when I can find a good price on an R32 rear - at the moment the cheapest option I found is to get one from the states for $799 Au but it will cost over $600 to freight it over here so all up it will cost about around $1400. Then I need to get it painted fitted and like you said get the exhaust modified to suit.
Any one else find one cheaper? I was thinking about asking the VW spare parts division but I had so much trouble with them just trying to order a Gti front lip that I've decided to not even try.
As for the free mats - make sure they are genuine factory VW items and not the cheaper dealer crap that they sometimes try to sneak in.
