Condensation in Tail Lights Mk5 GTI

G'day everyone! I got a bit of a problem and I was hoping if someone can point me in the right direction!

So I was washing my car last Saturday and I was having a good time, then I got the car back home and happened to notice on the drivers side tail light that I now have some pretty bad condensation on the inside. This made me quite upset.

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction to either have this repaired, or if anyone perhaps knows of someone or some place that can replace said tail light at a fairly reasonable price?

I tried to do a search but couldn't really yield any good results, so sorry if this has been discussed before.

Luckily mk5 GTI tails are the same colour lens as a standard Golf (unlike the R32's darker tails) so sourcing a replacement from a wrecker should be inexpensive.

Assumimg it's one of the outer lenses there are just two nuts which hold them in place which you can easily get at from inside the boot/trunk (just peel the carpet behind the lights forward to expose the two nuts which have a longish black plastic extension for ease of removal).

Where the wires connect to the light housing there is a connector which just requires an ordinary flat blade screw driver to unclip.

No doubt there is a youtube video showing you haw to step by step, or ECS's web site probably does.

Honestly it's a 10-15 minute job, have a go.

Whilst not VW, I had to do this recently for my Mazda CX-7. I sourced a new unit from a wreckers in Melbourne via eBay. It is a simple job to do and well worth finding a part in this way.

It certainly isn't a tricky job.

As featherless one said its a nice easy 5 min job to pull it apart. Just pull back that boot carped and it's a couple of screws that attaches to the body. Or you could try and get some silicone and apply around the edges to seal it up?

Otherwise I have a set for sale as well since I upgraded to r32 tails :p

Confirmed. I took my tails out last weekend as a part of removing the bumper (fitting a RVC). You just need a 10mm socket and undo the 2 screws and then release the spring-loaded turquoise loom connector. It took less than 2 mins per side to get them out and the same to pop them back in.
