  • TDI not starting ??

    Hi
    Any suggestions about this one?
Saturday afternoon the 07 2.0 TDI wouldn't start. Turned over OK, just no sign of it starting. Tried it a couple of times, left it for a few minutes, tried again, no joy. Fuel low - but not to the point where the light comes on. Called RACV.
Tried to start it again, no joy. Battery ( the original, so it's getting long in the tooth ) tested ~12.4 v, but the smart tester said it's OK. I insisted on a check while cranking - about 10V. No point in towing it on Saturday afternoon - we will just drive the Tig. After some reading here I'm thinking injector failures and $$$$$$.

This morning I called the RACV again, requested a tow. Tried it again when the tow arrived, same symptoms. I had it taken to my local Ultratune, they assured me they have the appropriate test gear. They are around 2 K away.

About an hour later I had a call from Ultratune - just what is wrong with this car? As soon as it came of the tilt tray they just started it and drove it into the workshop.

No faults showing up on their computer, we have collected it and 3 or 4 short trips later no problems at all.

Any ideas what this might be?

Can you hear the fuel pump turning on when you turn the key to the On position? Also, you should hear it pumping away for around 20 seconds after you switch off.

Is there an alarm that is being triggered by the tilt sensor and so not allowing it to start? It could be getting it on a tilt tray and transporting it caused the tilt sensor to be released (or anything else for that matter).
