Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If you turn off and on whilst sitting in car waiting for oil to circ all is 100%

You'll find that once you reach 20km/h they will start to work.... Unless of course you take the sensitivity up (or down) and then back they will start to work.

Worked a treat the other night.... In the car with a few mates and the wipers turned on (no seeable rain but it was raining) got a weird look wondering why "I" did that.... once i said rain sensing the down pour started

I just manually do it now. Not worth the risk of tail-ending someone waiting for the wipers to clear your vision lolz!

i got rain-x windscreen washer fluid, constantly re-coating every time I use the washers, works like a charm in the wet weather, could almost drive without the wipers.

We must also have an odd one - perhaps some days are better than others at the SA factory, but all the hi tech stuff works well, DSG changes well (too lazy to use the flappy paddles), Auto wipers, Xenons and rear view mirror dipping perfect, we are only getting about 6.5 L/100km but then only 5,500 Km yet.

I much prefer the manual interval intermittent wipers on my transporter to the auto wipers on my Octavia (and yes, I have read the manual and tried switching them off and on as well as adjusting the sensitivity). And based on comments I've read here (and elsewhere) there are quite a few people who feel the same way.

It is a pity they didn't gives us a "manual interval" control position on the switch as well, that way everybody would be happy.

My rain sensors are brilliant. I love it when someone washes their windscreen in front of you and the wipers have started up before you even know it happened.

I see it as a safety feature, same with the dimming rear mirror.

When I first got my golf a truck went through a massive puddle and covered the whole windscreen in solid sheet of water. The wipers dealing with it actually makes the situation better because you don't lose concentration on the road trying to flip the wipers on.

Most people think these features are wanky but I must admit they make you relaxed whilst driving, which prevents fatigue and essentially makes you safer.

On a drive to thredbo in my corolla at night, upon arrival I was knackered and a bit sore also. In the Golf I got out of the car pretty much still fresh.

Yep GT-TDi - but we are doing lots of short trips and the chief pilot is being a bit gentle - I shall give it a bit of a thrashing when I can prise it out of the dear lady's death like grip (avoiding the viscious Tasmanian Police) and Im sure it will improve
