Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Faint knock sound when applying throttle.

    Hi guy's

I purchased a 2005 Golf Mk5 TDI a few weeks ago & I've been noticing a faint Knock sound when applying the throttle on & off.
It only happens when I press the accelerator, it makes a one off Knock sound. Example, Tap the accelerate pedal (Knock) foot off the accelerator re-apply foot on accelerator pedal again (Knock). I think the sound is coming from the front of the car, I'm almost certain it's not the engine.

That knock does not happen from take off though, only when coasting along and lightly pressing the accelerator on and off.
If I press the throttle extremely soft I can't hear it all, It really sound when traveling at higher speeds on the Highway etc...

It's a strange one, can't figure it out. I'm guessing something maybe loose. I was thinking Engine mounts, Sub-frame, Bushes, Control arms etc..
Has anybody had a similar experience? Suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

    Eran
