  • Golf GT TDI Price & Fuel Consumption

    Hi Guys,

I just wanted to ask a few quick question for you all. I am looking at buying a Manual GT TDI. I drive around 40 - 42,000km a year all highway between home and work and the fuel consumption is what is attracting me to this car. The other option was the Diesel 308, however it is French and slightly weird!

I was wondering what you guys are getting consumption wise out of the GT, I do a lot of highway trips as I said, but do realise that it will probably use a bit more juice than the 308 which is around 4.5 L/100 km on the highway.

The other question is what price you guys paid. I am in Perth so realise that it is a little more due to the Stamp duty, however at the moment I have been offered $40,000 for drive away with 6 months rego for the manual. No options. Does this sound about right?

Hope you don't mind these quick questions and thanks for your time.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

If your doing those K's, go diesel all the way!
Only just clicked over 1100 k's in mine and all have been running k's which have been quite hard.
With that said i am only half way through my second tank so am expecting 1400k's from two tanks. So when your out on the open road there should be no reason you can't get over 1000k's from your 55L tank.
Have a good read of the run in procedure as this will help alot also with consumption.
I know the school is out on whether chipping makes a difference on consumption but i would say if your doing mainly hwy k's you could see a good improvement. I have just Superchipped my GT TDi manual and when i get enough k's on it to do a full tank on the open road i will let you know how it goes.

That price seems ok to, i'd say go for it!
    Cheers,
    Jamie

lucky boy i just did my first tank with more than half of it on the freeway. with about 45 litres i did 750kms with 60% of that being freewayand the other 40% being flogged around town. thats an average of 6L/100kms so on a full tank would have taken me over 900kms... pretty impressive really. realistically you can expect around 5.5 if you're sitting at 110 or 120. its a great car i highly recommend it.

oh and price wise i paid exactly 40 for my manual gt tdi in silver but i pre-ordered before the sales people even knew there was a diesel gt so i'm sure you can do much better than that now its been 6 monhts or more since then.

remember you can always shop around with interstate dealers too

Hi av8or, I'm an ex flyboy myself. After you get your best price give Private Fleet a call. They amalgamate a bunch of orders together and then put them out to tender for a bulk purchase price. You have nothing to loose.

Saved me $2K over the local stealer. Dealer is in Wodonga with delivery to Melbourne (2 x $129 airfares away) and the wife and I get to catch up with the daughter for her birthday and we have a holiday / run in (as per procedures elsewhere on this forum) on the way home.

Nice choice, can't wait to get mine, hopefully this week.

I paid full price $42882, but got 12 months rego and $1800 worth of extras, tint, mats, tow etc etc.

I mainly needed an inflated trade as I'm on a car allowance, and my trade was dropping by the day. I got an extra $3k at that end, and I did my red book and industry research on what I could get as a trade. I am very happy with the overall deal.

So for a GT TDI manual with $1800 retail worth of extras I "paid" $39 882. Recommended dealer, spent the time, told them what I needed up front, and bought on the day.

As for fuel economy, well, I'm expecting good things!

Economy wise, my overall figure is sittign at 7.6 after 2000km, but that is about 3 or 4 trips of 250+km the rest is hooning around town and a 10km commute to work on relative traffic.

Highway economy i did the melbourne to geelong run on cruise control and got 4.9 when the car was a week old. it has gotten better since then and generally i get it under 6 for the run in to work if i take it easy.

Thanks very much for you comments so far guys.

I also have a trade and emailed my dealer just now telling him what they need to do to get me into his car and out of mine. As he said to me yesterday, their job is to sell cars not keep them!

Do you find the economy of the car is getting better with age?

I would really like to think that I can get a comparable economy to the Pug. Of around maybe 5 - 5.5 L / 100km on the open road.

Also what sort of adapters are you guys using for iPod connection. I would rather not use the VW one as you are unable to change any songs on the iPod itself.

Finally what are the basic service costs for the 15 and 30, I assume the other services will kind of follow on from this afterwards.

Glad to see a bunch of guys enjoying the car and so helpful also!

              Cheers,

              Andrew

Try to find a dealer that has the car u want in stock, the wait can be a long time sometimes unless u are lucky.

U will easily get 5 on the open road over there, and as the engine loosens up it gets better.

there is a thread on here for an alternative head unit that has integrated satnav, ipod, bluetooth etc for about $900, a few on here are pretty keen to get into them.

servicing costs from memory are about $280 for the first 2 and a bit under $500 for the 45k one.

                    Thanks for the advice guys.

I was just quoted today by private fleet on a Red Manual with 12 months rego $39959 from a dealer in Perth. So I figure 40k is not far off the mark either.

Just gotta hope this damn mazda sells quick!

Look forward to joining the diesel club soon!

If you're after an economical and comfy car for Hwy cruising, that can can still bring a big smile to your face on the twisty stuff, you can't wrong with the GT Sport TDI. I just got back from Albany and Denmark where my beloved tractor managed to do 1000km on a single tank of fuel (5.3l/100km). I had the air-con going for most of the journey, so there is definitely room for improvement too.

I used them for my TSI and also saved over 2 grand. Cost me a $100 Virgin flight to Malbum and a drive back to Adelaide (coast road!). If you hate having to deal with dealers, it's a nice painless exercise. BTW, I chose to collect the car - they can also arrange delivery to your door on the back of a truck as well if you prefer.

                          Woo Hooo

                          Well I have done it.

Ordered a Tornado Red Manual GT TDi this morning.

The car is in Melbourne so will be shipped over to my dealer in Perth then I guess its not just waiting!

The more I read the more excited I am getting. Currently in a Mazda SP23 so will be nice to get the grunt and economy of the diesel!
