  • Whats with the sliding centre armrest

I have a GTI MkV. What's the purpose of the sliding armrest ? Just if you have long monkey arms ? Or am I missing the point ? Thanks

    Newbie here.

For long trips where you don't have to shift - like you said, it's an armrest, you rest your arm on it

On long trips sitting on the speed limit it is nice to have that arm rest. When the roads get sreious though its back where it belongs!!!!
Cheers and a big welcome to you. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Ok, I guess it was stating the obvious. I was looking for some sort of James Bond gadget sort of answer.....secret money stash holder or poison dart deployer etc etc.

Shouldn't you be asking about this in the whinging thread?

Perhaps you should never ask a question about your car.

lol christ why is everyone so bad tempered on here these days.

to the OP i always have mine slid forward the whole way but on the lowest setting because then i can rest my elbow on the rest and have my hand right on the gearstick... its very comfy. but then some people dont like it or people of the "bigger" variety sometimes may have to slide it away to get to the seatbelt buckle

                    has anyone noticed the handbrake?

Noticed this thread about the magic sliding arm rest. I always thought that the sliding bit was because some goose designed the handbrake in a weird place that meant that your elbow needed to bend the wrong way to pull the handbrake on unless the arm rest is at the highest position +/- the armrest retracted. Obviously some genius decided to put the sliding mechanism on the arm rest so that the handbrake did not jam up against it all the time yet people with shortish forearms could still adjust it to suit their fav cruisin position....

And.... in my beautiful Eos, you would not be able to reach the roof control lever if the armrest did not slide (again, without your elbow bending backwards!)...

So, it is the result of a genius with one-way elbows who likes to use the handbrake! - imagine what the Italians would have done!?

If it was Italian they would have said it adds character to the car and charged another $3,000 on top to show how exclusive it was!!!!!

Put the armrest in the glovebox and the handbrake in the boot, probably.
