  • Emissions Workship Warning Light!

    Hi Guy's

I just bought a 2005 Golf TDI MK5 today 122k on the clock, car runs smooth as silk and has a full VW Service history.
I'm brand new to the world of Golf & the TDI engine's so I don't know much.

Anyway I test drove the car a few days back, no warning lights nothing.
Picked up the car this morning and drove it in to work, everything was all fine.

On my way home, I filled the car up with a full tank of Diesel & about 10minute onto the free, I hear a beeping sound and lights flashing on my dash. It stated the warning 'Emissions Workshop' and the orange engine light switched on.

I've since Googled the warning message online and found many different reasons for the fault & some even suggest there may be nothing wrong at all.

I'm wondering if anybody had a similar Warning & is it safe to keep driving the vehicle?
It was also suggested that I purchase a VAG code reader, similar to this to diagnose the problem NEW Type 1 5M 5ft USB VAG K CAN Commander Full 1 4 OBD Obdii 2 Interface Cable | eBay Would that do the job?

    Any help would be great

    Thanks
    Eran

Has the car gone into limp mode? Could possibly be a DPF related fault? Try running it down the highway for a good 20 minute drive at about 3000rpm or more... But best bet would be to scan it to see what faults are comming up..

Nope not going into limp mode. The car is running absolutely fine, drives perfect. I just realised the orange light is the Exhaust light i think from looking at the owners manual, not the engine light.

The 2005 TDI doesn't have a DPF. Take a read in the diesel section, most likely cause is clogged up inlet manifold & EGR valve.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

All good guys, got the code checked out. Turns out it's a blocked EGR, will be getting in cleaned and repaired this weekend.
          Thanks
